Because we are bombared with impossibly skinny images from movies, magazines, and are berated when we are just a little pudgy. Some girls get over it and are happy with the way they are, some decide that fat is ok, and others are fighting it all of the time, even if they are skinny.
The best you can do is tell them they are beautiful. It is up to them to change their minds.
