More questoins about loading iPod onto computer

I went to my Itunes preferences, then to the iPod tab, but it wont let me choose anything, becasue it says iPod not connected. What should I do?

Disconnect your iPod and try again.

If that doesn't work, try restarting the computer and cleaning the connection parts of the iPod and the cable before you connect again, and try another USB port if you have one.
