Your age would have definetely been very helpfull. Now as a guy i can tell you that for myself there is nothing better than spending the whole day with my girlfriend doing romantic things. As far as presents(this is were the age would have been a big help)One time my gf rented a hotel room with a jacuzzi, when i came in there she was naked in bed with roses all over the place, we made love all night. That was the best present ever. If you are not sexually active, stay that way and buy him cologne and a dozen roses.
