my computer speakers are working when i go on AIM - i can here the doors opening & people iming me & me iming other people, however they do not work when ever i try to watch any video clips or play the SIMS. it's weird, i don't here any sound at all, but if i go back to AIM they work! any ideas on why this is & how to fix it? thanks!

If your away message is up, try unclicking the button that disables sounds.

It is possible that your sound card/hardware simply can't process more than one program's sounds at a time. Can't think of anything else.
