i am totally in love. i cant stop thinking about this boy, lets call him Jimmy. whenever i see him, i have nothing to say to him though. what do boys who are 12 like to talk about. im afraid if i dont ask him, i will regret it. all of my friends say he is ugly and make fun of him, but i really really love him. im not sure if he knows though. so my questions are:

how can i find out if he likes me without saying "do you like me"
and...
how can i stop my friends from says he is ugly and stuff.

You can ask him who he likes or hint that you like him by flirting with him. If he flirts back, he probably does like you.
Tell your friends you wouldn't do that to them and it hurts your feelings because you really like this boy. If they don't stop, what kind of friends are they?
