Recording on VCR

Hi,
My VCR is hooked up to the TV just fine,I can watch movies etc. But when I try to record anything on any chanel, nothing comes up on the new (empty) tape(the tab is not removed or anything.)Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Cujo

No, the tab on the video tape is only removed when you do not want to record over it again.
Any body else?.
