hi im yuanz.! im having alot of trouble sleeping lately. last night, i went to bed at 1230am and lay in bed till 4am, till i finally gave up and woke up to watch tv. i managed to sleep from 530am to 9am and then went to school for my training. after exerting myself physically quite abit, i thought i would be able to sleep. However, i could not sleep for the whole afternoon. It's currently 1.55am now and i have to get up at 830am tmr. what can i do to help myself sleep? my eyes are tired and bloodshot but yet my mind still seems so active. i dont want to take sleeping pills because my dad says i'll become reliant on them, and i also do not have access to them. is there another way i can help myself sleep?

hi yuanz.! :)

since physical exertion doesn't seem to help, you could try exhausting your mind instead. i agree with your father about the sleeping pills.

a few things you could try out:
1. counting sheep. the good ole tried and tested way. if you count up to 10 000 000 000 sheep and you are still awake, you should either switch to counting blades of grass or proceed to method 2.
2. your eyes are tired and therefore you shouldn't watch anymore tv. so, while lying in bed, close your eyes and let them rest. your active mind can then proceed to think. pick the most complicated math equation you can find and memorise it. when you can't sleep, try and prove the equation in your head. if you manage to do so and are still awake, then try to prove the equation wrong. if you are still awake by then, i suggest you enrol at Mensa where they will have exercise to work your brain cells.
3. finally, when all else fails, get your dad to knock you out.
