Question Posted Wednesday October 12 2005, 10:47 pm
Hi its Jen yeah heres my wondeful question about the trombone and such!
Alright I'm in 10th grade and I have played since 4th but I never really got *into* it until last year (as in I was alright but now I'm you know...pretty good. But I do have a problem playing out, I guess thats the shy person in me though, I'm working on it.) And well, I played 2nd part last yr. and it was good, I was comfortable on it, and I wasnt the one the whole band counted on. This yr. my band teacher gave me 1st part but I didnt feel I was ready for it and gave it too a 9th grader because I dont think I'm ready enough to carry the section. I feel disappointed in myself and part of me wonders if I should ask for the part back (we've only had concert band twice) but then another part of me knows that he would be better playing. And we're having chair auditions in Dec/Jan, so if I get higher than him on that I'll *know* I should be 1st.
So...what all of that was leading up too is, should I stick with 2nd and see what happens with the chair auditions or ask for my 1st part back and see if I can do it?\
Sorry for the long question and all, but its just been bugging me lately! Anyway...I guess I'm off, its kind of late so I have to be to bed!

Reason being that you have more experiance in playing, you are into playing now, and will undoubtably improve before the December Auditions, and you need to challenge yourself to get anything out of playing. You know those people out on the streets playing trombone? They could really be philharmonic material if they only challenged themselves, they practice for about 7 hours a day... And 1st part is a challenge. I have played all 3 parts, and 2nd part is the least challenging of them. Go ahead with the 1st. And yes, you can easily do it. The highest note I ever saw on a 1st was a high G... [ sbloemeke's advice column | Ask sbloemeke A Question ]
