I'm 13 and I've really liked this good friend of mine for a LONG time; to be precise, since Bush won his 2n election. One day we were talking and he's all like "who do you like?" He kept asking so eventually I told him. Then, I mentally flipped out, suddenly realizing that he got this girlfriend in the 7th grade at the beginning of September (grrrr). I apologized and he said it was ok and that it wasn't anything to be sorry about, but I'm really worried that he won't want to be friends with me anymore. What should I do? And please please please don't say "Don't try and get in between him and his girlfriend" because I won't.

Mackenzie answered Monday October 3 2005, 1:57 pm: Well how long ago did this happen?? Have you been noticing him acting any different towards you since then? Since I wasn't there to actually witness the look on his face and hear the tone in his voice.. I wouldn't know whether he was firm in his statement that it was 'okay' or not, ya know?? I would imagine that it wouldn't make any difference to him. From what I've experienced, most of the guys I've ever met wouldn't be deterred by such a small occurrance. Besides, I've always believed that you can never have too many friends; hopefully he feels the same. And if he already has a girlfriend, I would hope he's devoted enough to her to be able to trust himself enough to keep friendship relationships with his female acquaintances. If not, then that just shows his character, and personally.. I wouldn't want anything to do with someone who lacks respect for others, but that's just me talkin'.. Maybe you just didn't provide enough information, or maybe you're overreacting. I think it's one of the two. All I know is.. you shouldn't stress yourself out over it. Telling someone you like them is not a crime, and it's certainly nothing to be ashamed of.. [: [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]
