do colleges hav formals or anything like that

It may be different for other post-secondarys, but mine has homecoming, a Christmas "Ball" and a few other smaller celebrations where you are expected to dress formally.

There are a lot more semi-formal gatherings compared to very formal, but there are still a few formal ones.

well there's definitely a lot of parties but not a lot of college actually have formals. i know a couple that do, but there's others that don't. if you join a sorority though, they will throw formals, dances and stuff like that.

No. They have insane parties where people get piss drunk and 60% of them end up in the hospital needing to get their stomachs pumped so they can get rid of the high alcohol level.
