Okay, well first of all..where is this person asking you mean stuff? AIM, MSN, Yahoo? There should be ways to find out who this person is..
(1) you could make up a s/n, and IM that person on it, and act like you got their s/n from someone's madprofile, or a chatroom, or from a friend..and ask them who they are.
(2) get one of those "buddytracker" things for your AIM profile.. (search on google "buddy trackers for aim" b/c i'm not exactly sure where you get them) those allow you to see where somebody lives and information about that person, if it's available. (sorry if i'm wrong, b/c i never really had one..but i'm pretty sure that's what it is)
(3) click on "get info" (to go to their profile on AIM) and then click "Directory Info" on the bottom right hand corner of the profile screen.

those are all the possible ways i can think of rite now, and lemme know if you need help b/c i will IM them for you..or try to help ya out somemore if you would like. the next time they ask you something rude about your friend, give them a cocky answer. or just be a smartass to everything they say!! don't let them know it bothers you, b/c that is probably what they want it to do. just make them feel like an idiot for trying to make you mad, by being really smart to them. they should stop. and be sure to tell them how immature it is to do stuff like this, and also ask them why they can say this kind of stuff but not be brave enough to use their own name, or tell ya who they are! Good Luck!! (my AIM s/n is UrSoGorgeOusx)

Do you mean on AOL ?? - i think the reason no ones responding is because they dont understand the question .. but either way - Rumors & gossip are what people live off of.. people will start stuff without a trace - you probably wont find out who started what . who said this and who said that, but just be there for your friend and let her know your there !
