Trust him and let him trust you with personal thoughts and feelings. But the only way that you can really feel comfortable is if you do something together. It's normal for him or you to be very shy but if he really likes you then I think he would AT LEAST have to agree to go somewhere with you and his closest buds. Invite some of his really close friends and you can invite some of yours as well so neither one of you feel awkward. You could go somewhere like a movie first so you won't have to talk too much. Then the next time you hang out do something that involves a little more communication but still makes you guys feel comfortable... like go to the mall or something. Soon you'll be able to go somewhere alone. I understand how he's shy but if you don't let him/ make him open up then it will never work. sorry you're in this hard situation.. good luck.
