DrJenny answered Sunday July 17 2005, 12:50 pm: I am assuming here that you think you may be ill because you recognise the thing's that you are doing,ie frequently hand washing, as possibly slightly irrational.
What you may be suffering from sounds to me like acute anxiety. Do you have deep seated worries that you may be keeping to yourself? Pent up emotion's over a long period of time take their toll. Your body needs a release valve which may manifest itself in the kind of behaviour you describe.
I DO urge you to see your Doctor and tell him/her how you are feeling. You will NOT be laughed at, neither will you be sectioned which I think you are afraid of.
Let me know how you get on. [ DrJenny's advice column | Ask DrJenny A Question ]
