i came across your site when i was surfing the net, and i just thought i'll write in. perhaps you, your age being closer to mine, will understand better how i feel.
i'm the oldest in the family, 15, with a younger brother and sister. my parents are arguing constantly. they told me they want a divorce. because they're so rarely at home ive to watch over my siblings, so i keep having to miss school.
my sister is literally retarded. she can't spell apple and she's six. my brother is in the beyond parents control program, he smokes, drinks, and threatens to beat me and my sister up.
last year i had depression and started cutting myself. people just didn't get it. im not acting out. im thinking of quitting school and starting work. what is your advice? what do you think? please reply.
thanks for writing to me :) it appears that you are shouldering a heavy emotional burden, and it must be tough on you. you are doing great by holding on so far. :) your family problem is of extreme severity, and i see why you were driven to cut yourself. but, please don't hurt yourself. there are ways to work it out.
you mentioned that you want to quit school and start work. how are you doing in your studies? if you are a good student, wouldn't it be a waste to give it all up? even if you're not top in class or anything, i feel that an education is important. why not try to finish high school first and then see what happens? at least you'll have some qualifications that will aid you in getting a job.
as for your family problem, i would really like to help you, but as i have no experience whatsoever, i feel that i am not qualified to give you proper advice. thus, i suggest that you seek the advice of a trusted family friend or a teacher, or even a counsellor. getting professional help will enable you to work out the problem and make life happier for everyone.
meanwhile, hang in there and remember, you should not cut yourself. there is no need to inflict more pain on yourself, ok? all the best. :)
