If you're using a PC then go in to "My Computer" and right click on the drive corresponding to your Ipod. I forget if it actually says ipod or what. It will either say "Format" or "initialize" on the drop down menu. On a Mac, the drive will appear on your desktop and you control-click on it. That is one thing that I abolutely hate about Ipods. You cannot use them on more than one computer, so if you get a new computer or your old one dies, you're in trouble.
Right now I have an RCA Lyra and it is doing just fine for me. I guess it's all about the file sharing junk they are trying to stop.
Another thing you need to do is make sure you have your drivers installed correctly. I plugged my brother's Ipod into my computer and, yes, it recognized it, but I couldn't load anything onto it beacuse I didn't have the drivers loaded. ]
