OK, I think you should ask him how he feels. Well actually ask him flat out, "Do you want to date me? Or do you want to be friends?" I think it's important for you to ask him before you make any assumptions, because who knows what might happen. So just go ahead and ask him if he wants to date you or not. ;)

There is pretty much only one way to figure out if a guy likes you. That's to ask him if he likes you (or get your friend to do it). Or you could tell him you like him. I think those are definently the two best ways...
It's cool that your friends. Even though it might be awkward for a little while after you ask/tell him (if you decide to take my advice), everything will eventually go back to normal. At least that's what happened with me and my best friend. This is basically my philosophy when it comes to dating:
You never know until you try, so why not try?
