For everyone it is different. Some people can make themselves do it with ease, and on command, as some have to force themselves. But before you decide to kill yourself with bulimia, please do read what I have to say. I know it's long, but it is best that you know what you are getting yourself into.
Consequences of Bulimia
What is the future for a young woman who suffers from Bulimia?
As her weight drops below healthy levels she may experience a cessation of menstruation. Her metabolism will also become very confused, and slow down considerably, therefore setting her up for weight problems in the future. The constant abuses can begin to cause significant damage to the digestive system, and affect other parts of the body such as skin tone, hair, nails, and teeth - as the body struggles to find the nutrients it needs. The major nutrient problem is the loss of Potassium (K). Potassium (among other things) helps to regulate the heart and in chronic cases, the bulimic must be hospitalized as her body is so low in Potassium that some functions begin to suffer.
There is not much of a future for the bulimic. Why it initially seems that they have got control of their weight, the addiction slowly gains control of their life, affecting their health and their relationships with others.
The periods of starvation are hard enough on the body to begin with, but coupled with the fact that the person is vomiting their food up again it creates more wear and tear on the body. When a person (anybody) vomits they bring up hydrochloric acid from their stomach when this is done habitually and with regularity (for weeks or more), the lining of the esophagus begins to tear and will eventually cause internal bleeding. If a person is binging by way of laxatives then they might go overboard and end up dehydrating themselves to the point where they need medical attention due to other things in the body going wrong from lack of the proper fluids. People who have eating disorders will try and keep it discrete for as long as possible so they would not go to the doctor unless they had an extraordinary excuse (to cover what is really going on) or unless they suddenly had a change of heart and decided to save their life.
Also, as wear and tear occur in time it corrodes your esophagus and in the future has a possibility of a nasty gruesome death. Meaning, in time your esophagus tears and you pretty much puke yourself to death, puking everything in your stomach (including stomach acids) as well as vomiting blood.
I do wish you scare you with the true facts. As I have lost a friend due to this illness. But I figure, if you want to die a disgusting filthy mess go for it. You're already to skinny as is. I hope you change your mind. [ Rena-Chan's advice column | Ask Rena-Chan A Question ]
