Pretend world Hi
this is such a weird thing to talk about, but I think you'd be great at helping me. Im a 15 yr old girl, with a lot of stress. My friends are naturally supportive but I couldn't tell them this to my face.
When I'm in bed I kinda imagine that I'm someone else (a man, 38ish with a wife etc.....). I think that somethings really wrong with that but when I think no this is being weird I can't stop.
I have a toy that I initially had in bed when I was 8 (thats normal isn't it?) but I kind of use it in these things. I'm quite scared. Can you help me please

Hey hun,
The imagining thing - don't worry, you're not alone - I do it! I'm not a guy in my day dreaming (or rather, night dreaming, because I do my 'imaginings' in bed too) but I am radically different (older, prettier, different coloured hair, happier, confident, I say things I wouldn't say in real life...etc etc etc). Sometimes our own lives are so stressfull or upsetting that when we imagine something, or day dream about things, we make it so that our lives are as far away as possible to every day normality. People in hospital and in a lot of pain often think that they are in the past - their body can't deal with the pain so their mind takes them to an entirely different place. I don't think there's anything wrong with you - I think you're just an extremely empathetic person who can put themself in other people's shoes!!
How do you mean by 'use'? It's normal to have cuddly toys still though - I have this one that I will never let go of while I'm going to sleep and sometimes I hug it and imagine it's somebody else (like someone who is upset) and I'm kinda 'sending' hugs to them. I sound weird to myself just saying this, but trust me, there is nothign wrong with either you or me - we just have active imaginations, and I know loads of people who like to imagine themselves in totally different lives too!
If you are really worried, then go and see a counsellor (maybe your school has one? You can make out that you want to see them because you're so stressed to everyone else, then just tell the counsellor what's really going on. They can't tell anyone what you tell them, I promise :)), who, if they can't help you, will refer you to the correct person, such as a psychotherapist.
Here's a wacky thought...believe in reincarnation? Sometimes people have dreams, flashes or imaginings of things totally unconnected with real life, and if they go under hyponotherapy and get asked questions, it turns out to be a past life! This guy could be your soul in another body from a previous life? Just an idea :)
I hope I helped and if you wanna talk to me anytime, just drop another one in my inbox or add me on whatever Instant Messenger you have on any of those addys on my profile :)
Blessed Be,
