You Could Go Invisible By Clicking The Eye On your Buddy List...OR....You direct Connect with someone, then log off, and you should be able to talk with them.

You have to either go invisible (which is clicking on the eye) or connect with someone then sign off and you can keep talking! hope i helped

You can go invisible and appear offline and talk to people, but not while you're actually offline.
