Avatars
I like to make avatars, but the only program I have is Microsoft Paint, which is worse than a hammer and
chisel. I want to make the images change and text
flash across the image and all of the technical stuff that really makes an avatar looks good, but I don't know what software to get. Do you? Or, possibly, a site which could help me do so?

I use the GIMP, which you can download for free at [Link](Mouse over link to see full location). It's an awesome program! There are gif licensing issues with it, but you can make bmp and jpg images. It lets you work in layers and do cool gradient and button effects. It's all I use and it rules!
