who cares what other people say! you no your going out with HIM. as long as he know's that you don't like any other guy but him, it's fine. you have to tell your best friend the truth. if she (or he) is really your BF, they will understand. as long as the three of you no the truth. try to tell other people the truth, if it doesn't work, don't worry.
