Well, I think you just need to tell him that u don't feel anything between u guys and hopefully he'll understand. If you don't tell him the truth it'll just be harder on him and he'll get more upset at u and then u'll never be friends again, so just tell him the truth. Hope all goes well! Tell me how it goes!
