this guy and me were good friends and it all of the sudden just stopped and he said it was all his fault he just didnt want to come close to anyone, but it feels like we can never get back what we had, and i miss him.

Well really good friends normally don't just stop talking to you, expecially without a reason, although he did admit it was his fault. I've been in a situation like this before and just keep trying to talk to him and if it seems like he wants his space let him have his space, maybe you wont ever get back what you had but that is his fault and loss and he'll one day realize that.
