how does one ask a friend on a date and make it clear that its a date, not just a couple of friends hanging out?

Well, i tried to ask out my long time crush by saying "Do you want to go to Anny's on Friday?"(Anny's is an ice cream shop.) He thought it was a friend thing. So, i think you'd have to say "Do you want to go to ___ WITH ME?" The with me makes all the difference.
