Last year I tried out for the field hockey team with my friend. I ended up making the team but she didn't. I enjoyed the season, but I still don't really have any friends on the team. Tryouts for this season start next month and I've been going to conditioning but I'm starting to think I don't want to play anymore. 1.) I don't have any friends on the team 2.) the other goalie is rude 3.) I'm very out of shape and I don't want to hold everyone back. I could quit but I don't know if I should plus I have the schools equipment so I would have to give it back and tell them I quit and I'm also scared people on the team with give me dirty looks in the hall once school starts. What should I do?

You shouldn't quit the team just because you don't have any friends on the team. When I first started the high school's swim team I didn't have any friends either, but as the season progressed I found myself getting along with everyone on the swim team and eventually becoming really close friends. All you really have to do is introduce yourself to new people. Don't mind the goalie, that shouldn't be a reason to quit the team. When I first started swimming for high school, I was supposed to be put into varsity, but since I took a one year break I was put into JV instead. On my first day of practice I found out I was faster than everyone, and there was a girl who swam in the same lane as me, and I could tell right away she didn't like me. She was mean to me, and always sent me dirty looks. At first I tried my best to avoid her at the pool, and around school. After a while of hiding I started talking to her even though I didn't want to. At first she seemed kind of stand-offish, over time we actually became friends, and we talked at school all the time whenever we saw each other. As for your last and final reason You shouldn't be afraid of being out of shape. I was really out of shape when I started swimming again after a year of being lazy :) I almost drowned the first day I started. Over time I got back to where I was supposed to be. I even trained on my own. What I'm trying to say is if you're feeling like you're out of shape, you can always train on your own time outside of school.
If you really like field hokey, you should continue doing it!
Hope this helps!

Girls can be mean, but if you enjoy the sport and your not miserable every time you leave I think you should try out again. Theres always new players who are trying out maybe you will make a new friend. I doubt that you would hold anyone back some people are fast some people are slow. I think its great being on a team because its nice to know that you are a part of something. Plus, you will be back in great shape! I say give it a shot, maybe practice with your friend teach her some tricks to see if she will try out again :) [ Yourbreathlessxo's advice column | Ask Yourbreathlessxo A Question ]
