Should I start a YouTube channel?

Question Posted Sunday April 3 2016, 9:24 pm

I've been singing for a couple of years now, mainly in church and at a couple of weddings every now and then. Over the years I can tell I've gotten a lot better from when I first started and recently I've had this idea to start my own YouTube channel. The problem is, everytime I actually get ready to create it, I start having doubts. I'm not sure if its confidence I'm lacking or not. I'll be so sure about it one day and the next I'll feel like it's a stupid idea and I shouldn't even bother. I really want to try and see how it'll turn out, but at the moment I'm not so sure. What should I do?

I feel ya. Listen, I want to be a singer, and posting singing videos on my YouTube is very difficult to do... and I've been doing YouTube for 3 years now.

Trust me -- there will be haters, but there will also be people who love you and your singing. Sure you might lack confidence now, but the more thumbs up you get, the better your self esteem will be :)

Hi, I have read your letter and I know exactly how you feel, when I was a bit younger, I always wanted to have a youtube channel but I wasn't sure... Anyway, back to you, opening a youtube channel means being aware of haters, there are ALWAYS gonna be haters out there, most people can't handle them. Second, don't do it for the fame, do it because it's your passion and you wanna share it with the world. Third, don't think it's a stupid idea if you want to do it, just do it if you're passionate about it.

What I think you should do is give it a try, see how it works out for a while, if you enjoy it and like it, keep it, if you just don't feel it, maybe close it or try to improve, there are lots of websites on how to have a succesful youtube channel and that sort of stuff.

I hope my advice has been useful for you and have a better view of it. Yours truly, Adviceprofessional

Just keep making the videos. You dont have to post them just yet, but at least make them. Putting yourself out there on YouTUbe is a huge deal! People with channels definitely make it look easy, but it is totally understandable to get uneasy. Dont force yourself. When you are ready, you will know. Keep singing because you like to. Dont force it! Good Luck!

Start making videos.

That's my advice: Just start making videos. Even if you don't make a channel yet, even if you don't share them with anyone. Start making videos. Make lots of them. Hold yourself to a weekly schedule.

Here's the brutal truth: No matter how talented you are, your first attempts at anything are likely to be kind of shitty. That's just life. Great movie stars make shitty movies. Great writer write shitty books. It happens to the best of us. Nothing will stop it 100% but practice will help.

So if you aren't ready to start uploading things to channel, that's fine, but if you know that's the goal, then start doing the important part: Practice making channel ready videos.

One of the most dreadful thing that keep us from expressing our true genuine self to the fullest is FEAR or DOUBT. Just go ahead and record one of your favorite song video. Tell your self that you may or may not post the video on you tube, but record it anyways. By doing that you have already taken the first and the most important step to act or take action. Before and while recording the video, just don't think about you tube or anything. Tell yourself that you are doing it because you love doing it. If the video does not come out to your standards, re-record it as many times as you want. Once you have the video ready, now tell yourself that you know music and you have the talent. Sharing the video online is not always about becoming popular, but you want to share your gift and talent with the world. Forget about whether people like it or not, just go ahead and create a youtube channel and post it.
