I've been trying to convince my parents to get me a cell phone forever. I've tried the "everybody has one" method and the "reasons I need one" method but they wont crack. How do I convince them to let me get one? I have my reasons(good ones too) for needing one.
Additional info, added Monday May 24 2004, 3:35 pm: I've offered to pay for it myself because I have a summer job that can pay for it.. Want to answer more questions in the Relationships category? (if you dont already!) then when you think you have proved it pretty well, ask them nicely and remind them of how good you've been! also maybe you could research phones on the internet and find a cheap family plan! it worked for me! good luck!! It could be they're afraid that the phone bills could run far too high, even with a job; where I live, there are always these horror stories of teenagers in debt because of thousand-dollar phone bills. :) A lot of parents have that worry, so to counteract that, get a prepaid phone (where you buy credit _when_ you need it, instead of being on a plan), or get a plan which allows a spending limit to be set. Certain plans also allow you to talk to another person on the same plan for free at a certain time, so mobile phones can actually be pretty cheap. Just do a lot of investigating and plan it all out...

- Title
- Background information and stats
- Pros
- Cons
- Cost total
- Information on the phone you want
- End
Explain that you would pay for the plan if they paid for the phone.
Use ClipArt and animation effects to make your slide show look nice. Present it at a time when your parents aren't busy. On the end page it's a good idea to put something like "please consider" then ask them about a week later.

Do you really need one that bad? Are you willing to spend $300 for a phone? If so, you should consider paying for it yourself; or at least try and make a deal with your parents and see if you can both put money towards a phone.
