I've been around for a long time and have gone through many life experiences. Through them all I have tried to maintain a positive outlook on life and enjoy sharing this wisdom and humor with anyone I come in contact with.

When it comes to relationship advice, many people have told me I should write my own column! They find my advice to be refreshingly honest, down-to-earth and straight from the "heart".

i have an isolated dark line going verticle on my nail (so parallell to nail growth) and its on three of my nails. i do not know what it is. its been there for a while and it continues to grow with my nail. does anyone know what it is and if i should be worried? thanks. oh and i have already scheduled an appointment with my dermatologist but i would still like to know beforehand. thanks again. Splinter hemorrhages are small areas of bleeding (hemorrhage) under fingernails or toenails. They take the shape of straight lines and may be caused by damage to the blood vessels.

Splinter hemorrhages appear as narrow, red-to-reddish-brown hemorrhages beneath the nails. They run in the direction of nail growth and are named splinter hemorrhages because they look like a splinter beneath the fingernail. The hemorrhages may be caused by microscopic clots that damage the small capillaries under the nails.

First off, i'm a guy. I work in a place where I have to wear a shirt and tie. I saw this really nice pink shirt the other day and I even found a great tie to go with it. Dress slacks for guys are usually black, brown, blue, khaki or tan. None of these seem to really fit with a pink shirt. I guess black could but what color slacks would you suggest to go best with a pink shirt? i don't have a problem wearing pink. i just don't know how to make it work. any help would be appreciated. I think you should try dark green slacks with your pink shirt. It's a nice contrast.

Let me start off by saying that I'm not religious. I don't fast for fitness or because I believe some god is smiling on me because I starve myself, but I made a promise to myself this year. I have spent much of the last three years in what most people call the third world. I have seen people that don't have the luxury of every day. Now that I am back in the U.S. I have decided that I will fast ever day from May 10 to May 13 to remember how fortunate I am to live in a country where things like eating are taken for granted. I just want to know if there are any serious health risks. I start tomorrow, any motivation or advice from people who fast for any reason is greatly appreciated.

Although I don't fast anymore, I used to go on a cleansing fast once a year, right after my annual checkup with the doctor. It's extremely important to make sure you're healthy and have no medical problems first.

I've fasted several times, between 4-11 days and stayed healthy following some simple guidelines. Some fasts with only water and other times with juices. I've found the "juice fasting" to be the most pleasant as it gave me more energy.

Here are the guidelines I used:

1) Always dilute your juices 50/50 with water as some juices can be rather "acidy" and may upset your stomach since no solid foods are being taken.

2) Stick with juices that are milder, gentler and less acidic to the digestive system such as apple, cranberry and grape juices.

3) Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily to help "flush" out your system and keep your kidneys healthy.

4) When you're ready to end your fast and get back to solid foods...do so very carefully. You don't want to overload your system too quickly.

I "break" my fast by eating a soft (non-acidic) fruit such as a pear or banana and only eat fruits that day. The next day I gradually add vegetables and bread. On day 3, I add protein gradually.

If done safely, a fast can be very "cleansing" to the digestive system...also giving it a rest!

Good luck and stay healthy!

help i just started a keto diet (highh fat and protein no carbs or very little) and i cant think of any more foods with lots of fat! i have more protein in my diet now than fat and thats not what is suppose to happen im not sure what i can add to make sure im getting more fat! i eat salmon, eggs, nuts, peanut butter, olive oil, and coconut oil. what are foods high in fatt with no carbs?! (preferably more fatt than protein) (link)
Before you start the keto diet it's important that you talk to your doctor because a high protein, high fat diet can potentially damage your kidneys.

The doctor will add some 'guidelines' for you to follow while on this restrictive diet such as drinking lots of water and not being on it too long.

If you're looking for foods with lots of 'fat' content, try these:

1) bacon
2 cream cheese
3) sour cream
4) pork rinds
5) olives
6) butter
7) margarine
8) cheese
9) cream or half & half
10)heavy cream (whipping)

Hope this helps add more variety to your 'fats'. Good luck and remember to drink lots of water!

HELP! I'm totally bored. There is absolutely nothing to do! Nothing exciting happening in my life! I can't go out with friends cos I'm grounded, long story, don't bother asking. I can't watch TV, go online, or anything fun. (I'm online right now cos they think I'm doing homework)

I've run out of books to read, I don't feel like writing. I have nothing to do!

(link)
If you can't go out with your friends, maybe you can have a few friends over to hang out with. You can all play board games together, share some snacks and listen to music.

I know it's hard being grounded, trust me, we've all been there! Maybe you'll discover that playing board games with your friends can be uplifting and fun!

We have all been to the movies or to a ballgame or just an event. Most of the time, to get to our seat we have to walk past people that are already sitting. Is it more polite to walk so we face away or face towards them as we do so. One way our butt is in their face but the other our crotch is. I was just curious what people think. (link)
I usually walk by them facing away so that if I should lose my balance, I can grap a hold of the seat in front of me.

But, if I face towards them and lose my balance, their face will be in my "boobs"...what a way to meet your future boyfriend!!!

My cousin's getting married next month. She wants all of us to wear red dresses. The thing is, I'm having trouble finding any that I like, let alone ones I can afford. I could use some help...? I wnat something cute but simple, knee-length or so, not too prom-ish but still pretty. Here's just an example of something I like:

...but it's like $150. I wanna find something nice for half that price or less. I know, that's kind of a lot to ask for, but if anyone can help...? Please & thanks.=] (link)
I think I've found an answer to your dilemna! If you go to www.ebay.com and do a search for: red cocktail dresses, you will be pleasantly surprised at the choices you'll find.

They are soooo pretty and affordable too...many of which are under $50! You're going to find a nice assortment of cute, simple, knee-length cocktail dresses in "red".

You'll make your cousin happy and your pocketbook too! Enjoy the wedding!

I eat sandwiches and salad wraps for school but I still end up feeling horrible and bloated and fat no matter what bread I eat.
What else can I take to school for lunch thats easy to eat at school?
I am vegetarian by the way
(link)
You may be feeling bloated due to the flour in the bread you're eating. Try something that has no flour, like Matzoh, for example.

It's a large cracker-like wafer that is big enough to make into a sandwich. Altough crunchy, Matzoh is very tasty, filling and yet won't leave you feeling horrible and bloated.

It's also easy to take to school! Happy eating!

i hardly ever go 'number two'. usually, only a two times a week. i decided to take laxatives to help me go, but they only 'kind of' work. like, i'll go to the bathroom, but i'll still feel like i'll have to go more afterwards.

does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
what foods can i eat to help 'keep thing going'?
i hate hardly ever going to the bathroom because i'll start to feel sick and such.

thank you :) (link)
I don't think laxatives are the answer to your problem. There are certain foods that can help you go to the bathroom more regularly because of their 'high-fiber' content.

Try following this program every day, for an entire week, and you will see much improvement going 'number two':

1) eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast and a fruit (or juice).

2) eat a salad with your lunch or dinner.

3) snack on apples.

4) drink at least 8 glasses of water during the day and evening.

If you add these high-fiber foods to your daily intake, you will definately 'keep things going'!

Good luck!

I have a weird ear problem. In my right ear every 5 mins or so, I hear this whoosh, wind noise (but there is no wind!) and it kind of throbs/vibrates. I thought it was water in my ear but it doesn't seem that way and I tried ear drops. Has anyone experienced this or might know what it is? It doesn't hurt, but it's extremely annoying and has been happening all day. (link)
If it doesn't hurt you can probably rule out an infection. However, the throbbing could be caused by a restricted blood vessel, preventing smooth bloodflow.

It may also be an early sign of a more serious problem, hypertension. Another possibility could be a damaged eardrum. You should get this checked by a doctor very soon as negligence could cause permanent hearing loss.

Good luck, hope this helps!

So i just got back from travelling to florida with my friend and her family. i would like to get them a gift of som sort, just to show that i really do appreciat them taking me along. Last year i went with them and i gave them about $150 dollars worth of gift cards. This time i want to do something different but i'm just stuck on what to do. any ideas? there is a 16 year old, 6 year old, 3 year old and there parents. (link)
If you want to do something different this time, I have a suggestion the whole family will enjoy...a gift that will keep on giving all year! Give them the gift of entertainment with a 12-month subscription to Netflix! It will cost you only $8.73 per month and will give the family many evenings of "quality time". I gave this gift to my Dad for Father's Day and he hasn't stopped thanking me!

I've been single for about four months... And now I think that I'm ready to start dating again.

My problem is... I don't know where to meet an available guy. I tried bars and clubs in my wilder days, but the 'party' phase is over for me... So that's out. At work, I'm in a position of authority, so that's out. Church is not an option. I'm spiritual but don't tolerate dogma very well. So that's out.

Most of the guys that I have dated in the past, I met via the internet. I've tried Eharmony, Match.com, True.com, Plentyoffish.com, Myspace, and some other dating site that I had never previously heard of before. And I'm sick of internet dating. I receive tons of emails from guys that are inappropriate... Some of the guys that I have met post old photos and then look completely different in person. Some guys are only interested in 'hooking up.' And others... Are either socially awkward or just plain lazy.

Can anyone suggest a good place to meet people that doesn't involve alchol or a computer?

Thanks! (link)
There is a very nice website where you can meet people who share similar interests like you. This website has many choices listed that you can pick from. Not only will you meet many funloving men who share similar interests with you...but also make new girlfriends (who have brothers they can introduce you to!)

Check out their website...you have nothing to lose and soooo much fun to gain: www.meetup.com
You'll be on the computer just long enough to write down where and when to meet these new friends...and who knows...HE just may be one of them!!!

Good luck to you and keep an open and fun spirit!
