I am a regular no nonsense southern man with an uncanny ability to remember things that I read or hear. Most advice I can give is either in the IT field of which I am an expert, or some crazy fact that I read somewhere or some fact I have heard and verified. One thing is, I am pretty honest when it comes to giving advice. I will give it to you straight. I have a great and loving family which may provide a different slant on my advice. Family First. Also, I am a Buddhist. We have the best world view.Ask a question and find out!

This may be a situation that you can fix yourself! AT&T or bellsouth for us old guys, connects based on a network protocol called PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet). Wow thats boring, but... PPPoE requires some device to authenticate. That means, that you will not get connected unless either your DSL modem, your router, or your computer is sending out a username, and password that lets you on to AT&T's network. Usually on Bellsouth / AT&T's DSL, your modem ( supplied by them) handles this job. When you first hook up to the modem they sent you, and try to go to the Internet, It takes you to what looks like a web page but is really a setup routine for your modem. It will ask you your username and password then. If you don't get this page, then open your Internet Browser ( Internet Explorer... the big blue "E", or whatever you usually use to Browse) and type in the "address" bar ( this is the place you usually put the www. stuff) 192.168.1.254 and hit enter. The default "address" for bellsouth modems is the address above. It should ask you for your username, and password. If it does, then your email address that AT&T assigned you is the username, and the phone number that the DSL is on is usually the password. Don't use the area code, just the 7 digits that your DSL is on.

I can't begin to tell you how many folks have been left with a monthly DSL bill, and no access until we come out and set the modem up.

Give it a try, and if you still have problems, consider having a local computer guy take a look.

Hope this helps. I can give you more detailed modem setups and router setups ( if you are using a router to let more than one computer use the Internet connection) by email.

for the disney movie "Read it and weep" what kind of laptop did jamie i think her name was has?
it like flips over and you can write on what would be on other laptops the cover

also where can you buy those? (link)
I am not familiar with the movie your are asking about, but if the computer looks like a normal laptop, but allows the screen to swing around and lay flat it is a Convertible. Pretty sexy name, but be careful. We have to replace the swivel joints on a lot of these and it is not a cheap fix. The convertibles are still pretty pricey too. Unless you just have to have a laptop and a tablet, you may want to wait until the price comes down, and the swivel mechanism gets a little more reliable. But, if you just have to have one, Gateway probably has the best system. Check it out. http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529665537.php

20/f. I'm open to advice from anyone at this point, I'm kinda stuck.
A little background on me: I've always used writing as an outlet, whether it's to dream up my future husband, or play out a scene before it happens to see how it'll turn out (my writing's also had a habit of predicting events, if I use people I know as characters.) My other two major creative outlets are singing and drawing, all of which I'm equally good at...but all of which I'm equally stumped on.
I was reading some of my old writing, and I found it to be...overwhelming. One of my stories was written entirely out of my control (my characters took over), and it's just SO good. I can't figure out how to just let go like I did to write that story. Where my prose used to flow smoothly, it's now choppy and flat, and I can't stand it. I hate my own writing, and that bothers me to no end.
I intended to use this break from classes to get back in touch with my ability and remind myself why I love it so much, and I feel like I don't even know where to start.
Can anyone relate?
Does anyone have any useful advice?
Thanks...

I think it is interesting and probably right on, that you think your best writing was when your "characters" took over. I have found over a lifetime of reading, and a little writing, that the characters that build the story are much more engaging than the authors that created them. Think of all the really great stories that you have read... would you rather meet the characters in the story, or the author? I suffer from the same star struck notion that everyone does. What makes this author tick, but after looking into them, or meeting a few, I really like the characters much better. If you like the characters "writing" the story better than "you" writing the story, then chances are, others will too! How about writing about what happened to one of your "writing" characters, the day after they took over your story telling? This may put you back into their head and let them tell a little more of the story. Good luck... I love a great novel!

so my mouse was dying, so i put the right kind of batteries in to get it back to normal. but then when the red light finally stayed on, the arrow wouldnt move on the screen. i've restarted the computer twice and its stayed in the same place. and the little connection thing that is for wireless keyboards and mouses is on and working fine. everything is plugged in and working fine. so why isn't my mouse working? it says its on and everything.
what do i do?!
im really sick of pressing tab for everything. (link)
Put your "little connection thing" closer to your mouse, and then try it. Most wireless mouse/keyboard combos give problems when the connection unit (little connection thing) is too far from the device. Also be aware of any florescent bulbs around your computer. They create a lot of interference. Turning off a desk lamp will sometimes solve wireless device problems... including WiFi issues.

I dont know why, but I am really afraid to drive! I'm 15 and I've already driven a couple of times, but everytime my mom asks me if i want to drive somewhere, my stomach just drops! Thats how bad i hate driving! I don't know how to get over this fear, and I mean, i'm not a horrible driver, I just am so nervous!
I'm takin drivers ed this summer, so my question is, how do i get over this fear before drivers ed?
(link)
When my daughter turned 15, she was terrified to drive. She was convinced that she couldn't pass the test, and would kill someone while taking a short trip to the mall. My advice... There are a lot of morons driving around that don't kill people, and some how passed the test. If you don't believe that there are some total idiots that drive everyday, ask your mom or your dad. they will tell you that the road is full of them. I am sure you are much smarter and more careful that most of the maniacs on the road today, so do us all a favor, and get your license!

heyy i tried sending a text to my friend's phone from im and it worked but when she texted back i never got anything.....do u no why?
would it b possible to text from email instead of im? (link)
Most IM services provide you with a 5 digit text number, Like the ones you see on TV. Like send a txt to 95545. Send a txt to your own cell phone and see what your sms or (txt) "number" is. Have your friend send messages to this number. Should work!

on my windows XP desktop, i cannot log in
it keeps saying
"remove new hardware"
"press f8 to"
"restart"
and what is really worrying me
"deleting physical memory"
what does this mean, do i have to turn it in to fix it?? (link)
Nova is right on this one. But I would focus on external devices. Most people don't want to open their computers to put stuff in, but everyone is willing to plug a USB (Universal Serial Bus) device in with no thought of what it might do. XP has a bad habit of trying to boot from USB storage devices. If you just added a Jump Drive or an external hard drive, or even a card reader for your camera memory card, unhook it, and try to reboot without it.

if i turn in my computer because of hard drive problems, will they be able to detect my internet history..even though i deleted it?
because i stumbled on porn because they popped up..i don't want them to think..you know
but can they detect history? (link)
After owning a computer repair business for the last 12 years, My employees and I have seen the best and the worst of what people do on the internet. Most times though, we just don't have the time or desire to figure out what you may or may not have been doing on the internet. We just want to get your computer fixed for a reasonable price and get to the next 12 computers on our bench. Don't worry about your hard drive contents, 90% of the time a tech can fix your problem without ever going into your hard drive contents
