I need help to train for the gym fitness test that I will be taking early this year. I am not extremely out of shape, for most of the fitness test (pushups, situps, and sit and reach) however, I cant run for my life. Does anyone have any tips on how to train for the 1 mile run? I need to get a reasonable time (like 10 minutes and below) but I also have a breathing disorder that has to do with my vocal cords, making it harder to keep my breathing inline when I run. Please help me with a training guideline! (link)
If you can't keep your breathing in line, your coach shouldn't make you do it. Get a doctor's excuse. Running when you have breathing problems is SERIOUS and should not be taken lightly.

My two best friends just recently started drinking over the summer. I have been away and just found out about this recently. I however, dont want to start drinking they are, I think it is pretty pointless and I dont need alcohol to have a good time. I KNOW that I am able to say no if I am put into a pressuring situation by them, but I am afraid our friendship isnt the same anymore. It seems like they want to move on to bigger and better things, but they truly are my best friends in the world. What do I do? 15/f (link)
Remember Elizabeth Swann on Pirates of the Carribean? Pull an Elizabeth on those Jacks. You can just pretend to drink out of the bottle if you like. Or, as a better alternitive, tell them that your family has a history of alchoholism and you're afraid that you'll get hooked on it, and possibly drink yourself to the grave.

i have bags under my eyes and i would really like to know how to get rid of them because they make me look so tired all the time. is there anything i could do to get rid of them without having to buy anything? if not, what should I buy?

Love, Danielle (link)
Usually more sleep is good. 8-9 hours a night is really good.

Yes I can see that happening but like some of the songs are like really girly like Idk how to say it.. I love singing any my voice is too low for most of the things i sing and I have a really bad voice, but I know high to go on a note and things... (link)
Well... to admit it, I'm a soprano girl that sings Pink Floyd and the Beatles. I'll even sing some heavy metal if I feel like it. It's strange to me that I do this, but my friends rap all of the time, and it's quite a show!

I say get into a choir. You don't know how bad your own voice is. When you hear it from your mouth, it's going through your bones. When you hear it through your speakers from your microphone on your computer, it's poor quality recording. When you hear it in a choir-it's mixed with all of the voices, like a guitar. One string is pretty wimpy and might make a nice intro, but when you get them all in on the job it sounds great.

If you love to sing, sing! A lot of people who couldn't sing well in a lot of people's opinion made it far! (Consider Axl Rose for a minute.)

Good luck on your pursuits!

Is it strange to sing to music as a 13 year old guy that ranges from like girly stuff to rap even if I don't even like the song or artist??? (link)
Not if you like singing ;D

I know a guy who's a soprano at my high school. He's the gem of the choir because at competitions the judges are all impressed with him. He's 13 or 14.

I babysit a one year old and he wont stop crying! The only time he is happy is when I am holding him but after a while I can't because my arms are way too tierd. Any suggestions? (link)
Play peek a boo. Usually that makes my cousins giggle a lot.

Making funny noises is a good trick, too.

If all else fails, feed him some warm formula, and change his diaper, and put him to bed. Be sure to sing to him (even if you screech like a cat, babies usually like human voices) as he goes to sleep.

I hope this helps!

I am 13 years old. I dont have acne except for once in a while a couple zits. You can see my pores on my nose...they arent huge but i think you can notice them I found some products i could use but im not about to spend 20 dollars on a little bottle. So if you have any at home treatments or cheaper products I could use that would be great! thanks! (link)
Cold makes pores shut. Try washing your face in the morning with nice cold water- not only will it help, but it also wakes you up!

If you are going out or something, pack a washcloth in a ziploc with a few ice cubes. If you think you need it, excuse yourself to the restroom and wash your face.

Hope this helps!

I can't really get a teacher right now.
I would love to know if I'm singing through my nose or not. When I record my voice.. I hate it.
I'm looking for a kelly clarkson-ish voice. And I'm either a mezzo-soprano or a soprano. Anyways.. How do you know if youre actually singing right or not? (link)
Okay. How to tell if you're singing right:

Breath in deeply as much as you can.
Start to sing.

Can you envision this air coming from your lungs, hitting the top of your mouth, and spilling out of your mouth? It helps me a lot when I sing. I'm a soprano/alto, I have a high range.

Also, a good way to practice and open your lungs up is controlled breathing. In for eight seconds, hold for eight seconds, and out for 16, like you're blowing out a tiny candle.

After you open your lungs, try some warmups. My teacher likes to get me to sing nonsense syllables, but these help on pronunciation in singing. She uses doh-may-nee-poh-two, going up one note on doh, may, and nee, and down one in poh and too. Try going up the scale one every time you do it. Hard to write out, but easy if you've heard a choir warm up ;D

You might hate your voice when it's recorded, but most of the time we normal people don't have the good equipment needed to record it properly. Your breathing, the acoustics in the room, everything makes a HUGE diference. Another factor is the "it's me and I can improve" factor. It's like school photos. Your mom loves them, but you notice the little weird part in the smile and the way your hair just HAD to do that, and... and...

Just keep practicing your singing. Consider joining your school or church choir, the tips you learn in there are great for general singing.

One of the most important things is to NOT STRAIN YOUR VOICE. Always warm up before you sing a song with very high or very low notes. You don't want to sound like a grunge singer, now do you?

Oh, and remember these diet tips, too:

Water is good. It is good to oil up the works a bit.
Hot decaf tea is good. It soothes the throat and can help keep excessive "oil" out.
Mints are good. Why- I don't know. They are soothing to the throat though.

Milk is bad. It causes large amounts of mucus to accumulate. Too much "oil" can clog up the system.
Sugar is bad. It can coat your throat- not good for singing.

Good luck!
