Q: my volleyball coach has been telling me that I need to step out of my bubble and be louder. she says that she needs to be able to hear me 1 court down. If it helps, i'm a quiet person and not like the loud and excited girls. I am sort of shy but I have some friends. My question is how can I be louder?? I was thinking that when i'm home alone I could practice being as loud as possible, but I don't want to lose my voice after that. Any ideas?

I wouldn't worry about losing your voice because you're starting to be louder. It's unlikely that it'll happen. I also play volleyball, but I happen to be one of the loud ones :) haha. I met this one guy during our drama production this year at school and he was extremely quiet. What I did to try to get him to speak louder was increase my volume obnoxiously anytime I would talk to him. The rest of the cast followed my example and eventually he started projecting more. I would suggest that during practice one day, your whole team joins you in exaggerating your volume levels. Even when you're speaking to one another, talk unnecessarily loud. It may help you get used to being louder around them.
Also, you can always try playing noise games. Who can call for the ball louder? Or play some two on two and yell jibberish back and forth to try and break the other team's concentration.

Let me know how it goes!

Q: Alright well last year I was on two leagues. I played softball for the school and for southside. When I played last year i got SO sick of it and I wanted to quit one league I never did. Now since its winter and like cold out ive been DIEING to play softball. I have one brother but hes never home, so I cant play catch with him and I have one friend who likes softball but can hardly ever hang out.And I took socks and rolled them up together and Im a pitcher, so I put a target on my wall and was pitching to my wall for an hour but it got boring , but i stil want to play catch or hit the ball or something what can I do? Sorry if its long.
You can always go to the batting cages or call up some girls on your teams to see if they wanna go to the gym and throw or something. Otherwise, ask your parents about joining a travel softball team. Travel teams ususally practice all year aroud at some indoor facility. Hope I helped.

Q: hey does anyone know how i can pratice pitching without some1 catching with me and the throw backs.. is there some how another way?? i know its a stupid question but i would like to kno.. and how else can i improve my preformance in softball by any way?? thanx
You can get one of those nets...i don't know what they're called but if you throw a ball at them then it'll come back to you. Yeah you can pitch against that. Or, you can be like me and use a trampoline! lol...but yeah and there are a lot of ways to improve your performance in softball. Drop a qeustion in my column about what exactly you need help with in your performance ( like hitting, fielding, throwing etc.) and I'll help you out with some drills or something. ~*CaSSiE*~

Q: I have played basketball all my life... it has become an every day thing for me ... every day i practice 4 to 6 hours a day... This year for some reason Im confused about wanting to play or not...I played this summer with our towns varsity and want it to stay that way, but if i end up of JV i will be really depressed like last year should i still play even if it means being on JV?
You shouldn't decide whether or not to play the game you love based on what year you're going to play for. You should play because you love to play the game. I would be happy to play on any team so long as I got to play. I think that playing on JV could have advantages too. If you played on varsity you might not get as much floor time as you will on JV. Just think about it. Play basketball to play and because that's what you like to do. Don't second guess the game because of the team you'll be playing for. ~*CaSSiE*~

Q: i've been told i have an AWESOME stance at the plate when im hitting, but when the ball comes and i go to swing, i rotate my body and slap at the ball, like i dont watch the ball hit the bat i guess bc i turn my self, when i do that, i step out, which is making me a super pull hitter to the left side which sucks bc the teams are gettin used to me and know where my sweet spots are . eerr . but i guess what im tryin to ask is does anyone have like any advice on how to correct it . my cousin tried to help me but hes a guy so hes different then a girl you know lol . idk i just need some advice on how to make my swing more even . i guess im rotating my body, stepping out, and reaching for the ball . ughh . i hate it bc im hittin like little grounders RIGHT to short or 3rd and its horrible bc at the beginig of this season i was hittin triples and doubles all over the out field and now ima pull hitter right to short . ugh . so any advice will be overly apprieciated .
haha...ok 1st of all gurlz who play softball kik ass! I play softball 2 and I had the same problem you do. When you hit dinky grounders to the left side then the pitch was probably an outside pitch. There are three positions the ball will cross at the plate. Inside, Middle, and Outside. If the ball is an inside pitch you want the bat to meet the ball right at the front inside corner of the plate. That way you pull the ball. If the ball is up the middle make contact when the ball is right at the heart of the plate. Then you should drive the ball right up the middle. An outside pitch is the trickiest because everybody wants to pull an outside pitch. If the pitch is outside you have to keep all your momentum going toward right field(if you're a righty)or left field(if you're a lefty). Throw your hands right toward the ball and make contact when the ball crosses the back outside corner of the plate. That will help you to not pull the ball. What you can do to see the ball better is hand eye coordination exercises. You can write #'s or color all over the ball and have somebody pitch them too you. Then watch the ball all the way in across the plate and try to tell what number/color was on the ball. What you can do about keeping your body in place is make sure you go shoulder to shoulder with your chin when you swing. That will help you keep your head in place. You're looking for the ball before you hit it which might also be causing you to miss the heart of the ball. There is a saying that might help you with your swing. It goes "STRIDE"(getting all your wait back)"GLIDE"(bringing the bat back into ready position)"HIP AND FLIP"(throwing your hips while you punch the ball with the knob of the bat and finish your swing while piviting.) Sorry if that was a little a bit confusing. That's really all I can think of right now, but I'm sure you can ask your coach what's going on and without a doubt he'll be more than willing to help you. Otherwise you can go to a hitting clinique. Get back to me if you need more advice or wanna talk softball.
