Hey, I'm Melody! I've been giving advice on and off since 2003. I'm a 23 year old military wife, expecting a baby boy in August, and working on my Bachelor's degree. :)

Oh, and ask me anything!

Advice

13/f ( I NEED HELP, NOW!)

So recently my friends dyed their hair pink, they thought it was like a temp. 6-8 washes will get it out sort of thing. They found out it was permanent..and that they would have to grow it out, or cut it to get the pink out.

I really wanted to dye my hair pink..but now i'm deciding between Pink and Blue..i have a dirty blonde/brown hair color. My mom wants me to get highlights. Plz tell me your opionion..and if i should TEMP or PERMANENTLY dye my hair

THANKS SOOO MUCH!

Don't dye your hair because your friends are doing it. That's dumb.

I actually bought temporary hair dye and dyed mine purple about 2 years ago. Turns out you aren't supposed to you use any kind of hair dye on light colored hair. (mind was also dirty blonde/light brown). Mine stayed in there and I had to go get mine stripped and recolored at a beauty salon and it was quite a pretty penny. My hair color hasn't been the same since.

If you want to dye it pink, then do it. You should use temporary color dye first, and if you like it, then you can get permanent. I like the idea of highlights better than the whole thing.

Is highschool scary? What's it like? What should I expect?

I know how scary being an upcoming freshman can be. I haven't forgotten, because I was absolutely terrified. I actually threw up on my first day of school. Everyone is usually always scared about some sort of Freshman Friday that the Seniors have told them about, but nine times out of ten there is no such thing. For example, the last week of my 8th grade year, a bunch of the Freshmen at the time told us all the new Freshmen got thrown over the Senior Hill. Just so you know, our school is on a mountain/cliff like thing, and on the side of it is a huge drop to a river. Kind of scary, I know. I was scared out of my mind about it, however it never happened. Turns out, it was all just a joke to keep us scared out of our minds. The worst that happened to me was that I got lost in the hallways a few times. My goodness, I can't stress enough that

High School Is Not That Bad.

The first day is scary. The first day is always scary. But most have freshman orientation and I guarentee that you aren't the only one nervous. Take advantage of the situation and make some friends if you don't already have some. All highschools are different, but usually on your first day you'll walk to your homeroom and the teacher will talk to you and tell you everything you need to know. He or She will tell you where your classes are and how to get there. If you have any questions then would be the time to ask. Try making a different set of friends in every class. By tommorow, you will most likely have plenty.

My Freshman year turned out to be great. I was dating my boyfriend (who at the time was a Junior) and my town is so small, that I already knew everyone. If you don't, take it to it's advantage and make some new friends. I'm an upcoming Junior now, but I could careless about the upcoming Freshman, and I doubt anyone in your school will care either. I hate a few of the Freshman, and then love some others. It's not the class most people hate, it's a select few in the class. Basically, you probably won't get picked on. Older kids could usually care less about Freshmen. A few immature upperclassmen may pick on you, and if they do just ignore them. Sadly you are probably much more mature than them.

If you are worried about "popular people" don't be. People don't seem to understand what the world "popular" means anymore. It means people like you, and people get along with you. Obviously many have forgotten that. Kids who are usually considered "popular" in highschool don't have many friends. They are usually stuck up, and you don't want to be or be around that. They are snobs. Plain and simple. Don't let them get to you. If you didn't have a problem with it in middle school then it probably won't be a problem in highschool either.

Just remember, you have a lot more freedom as a highschool student. That freedom can be an amazing thing, but with it comes responsibility. If you are responsible, then it's not bad. If you aren't, then it deffinately is.

I'm a Junior now and I have had my share of good and bad experiences at the highschool. There are a few things I have done that I wish I didn't, and a few things I would never change. Overall highschool has been one of the best experiences of my life so far, and i'm sure it will be one of yours as well.

In the end, don't be nervous. It's the same as elementry & middle, only better. Highschool is what you make it, so make it great.

I'm a little nervous about what people say about high school. People say that high school is really a scary thing and that the older kids always pick on you. One of my older friends got molested at a high school party. (Problem Solved) Kids are always talking about the populars. I never had any problem with it in Middle Scool. And I really don't know what to expect ? Can anyone share expieriences and tell me the honest good and bad of high school ?

Highschool isn't scary. The first day is a little nerve wracking, but I promise by the end of the week you will love highschool. Almost everyone always does.

Older kids could care less about freshman. A few immature upperclassmen may pick on you, and if they do just ignore them. Sadly you are probably much more mature than them.

You have a lot more freedom as a highschool student as your friend unfortunately knows all to well. That freedom can be an amazing thing, but with it comes responsibility. If you are responsible, then it's not bad. If you aren't, well you obviously know what may happen.

I'm a junior and i've had a mixture of good and bad experiences since i've been there. Overall highschool is great. I'm sure you'll love it.

If you browse this category you will find many more answers to your question. A lot of people ask this on the website, and the answer is not going to change. I've answered this question 100 times, and i'll say what i'll always say.

I'm atheletic, but I'm not as thin as I'd wish/I still have a little pudge. I'm able to push myself when doing activites. So basically, how many lunges should I do a day to see results? I don't want to be doing too little. I don't want to start out with 20 or whatever, I want to know what a GOOD amount to do daily is.

If a pudge is what you want to get rid of, crunches or sit-ups would be more effective than lunges. For situps, you should start off doing about 15 three days a week. Then move it up to 20, and so on. For crunches, you could probably start off with about 30. Usually you don't start feeling the burn until about 10 or so, so 30 would be effecient.

If you would just prefer to do lunges, 15 a day would be good. Do these 3 or 4 times a week. You can move up to about 20 when you feel you are ready to.

Recently, my boyfriend and I started having sex. The first time, it hurt pretty bad.. but it doesn't hurt so much anymore. But, the thing is, i haven't bled yet. Does that mean that he didn't tear my hymen? I know some of my friends didn't bleed either. Am i still concidered a virgin?

Your hymen may have already ripped. You probably didn't know it, because it probably didn't rip all at once. It's probably slowly broken down until it was gone completely. But then again, some people just don't bleed when it happens.

Your hymen being in tact has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you are a virgin or not. You are a virign if you've never had sex, if you have had sex, then you aren't a virgin. It's simple.

Can two people who have never had sexual contact with anyone else become infected with STDs after having sex for the first time?

If you & your partner have been tested, and neither of you have been tested postitve, then no. You can't catch an STD from someone who doesn't have one.

Don't forget that you can get an STD from other things besides just sex, so don't trust someone who says "I don't have an STD, i've never had sex." As a matter of fact, don't take anyone's word for it at all. They could be lying.

Always get tested regulary, even if you think you don't have an STD. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

I had sex with my boyfriend. Am I pregnant?

If you had sex, then there is ALWAYS a chance of pregnancy. No matter what precautions you take, the chance is still there.

When having sex, ALWAYS wear a condom. When used correctly only 3 out of 100 couples get pregnant a year. Those odds are good, but they aren't perfect. Meaning if you are using a condom (even correctly) you still have a chance of getting pregnant. Condoms are more effective with spermicide so when buying, make sure they have it.

Also if possible get put on birth control. Not only does it give you a lighter period, less cramps, clear up acne, could possibly reduce the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer, and ovarian cysts, but it's also a highly effectice method for reducing the risk of pregnancy. Why wouldn't you get put on it? When using the pill correctly, there is only a 0.5% failure rate.

Now think, if you use the pill and a condom together and correctly, the risk of getting pregnant is almost virtually impossible. Notice: I said "ALMOST". When having sex, there is ALWAYS a risk of getting pregnant no matter what precautions you take.

If you have sex and don't use protection, you can and most likely will get pregnant. If getting pregnant is going to be an issue, either protect yourself or don't have sex at all.

okay so i am going to be a freshman in september. i am really scared, whats freshman year like? do the sophmores, juniors and seniors torture you?! what happenes on freshman friday?

another question, how do i make new friends? that might sound like a stupid question but, im shy. how do i become friends with some of the other freshman, sophmores, juniors or seniors? i want high school to be the best years of my life!

thanks for the helpp!!! =]

All highschools are different, so unless someone goes to the same school as you on here, it will be hard to describe what your first day will be like.

My freshman year was great. I was dating my boyfriend (who at the time was a Junior) and my town is so small, that I already knew everyone. The first day on the other hand, was scary. I'm an upcoming Junior now, and I could careless about the upcoming Freshman, and I doubt anyone in your school will care either. I hate a few of the freshman, and then love some others. It's not the class most people hate, it's a select few in the class.

The worst that happened to me was that I got shoved a lot in the hallway [on accident, don't worry ;)] and I got lost a few times. But that's it.

As for making friends, someone already mentioned that you will have a lot of classes with the upperclassmen, so making friends won't be as hard as you think. I promise =]

I was just wandering if there is anyway i could make my period go by faster? cause i might be goin to the beach next week and i wear tampons but i would rather just be done with my period when i get there. i started today by the way, and i usually last bout 6 or even 7 days. thanks a bunch!!

Unfortunately No, you can't make your period go by any faster. But you can be optimistic about the situation. If your period lasts about 6 or 7 days, and you are going to the beach next week, you might be off of your period by then. If not, look on the bright side: your period will get light each and every day. You should only be spotting some by the time you go the beach. Take midol with you and keep active. If you stay active and wear tampons, your cramps will be less painful.

Have fun at the beach & I hope you are off of your period by then =]

im almost 17 and my bf wants to try anal sex im a bit worried about it one of my friends told me she did it once and it really hurt her bf is big
im scared to try my bf has a big penis and im worried it will hurt what should i do?

I've never had anal sex, and really have no intentions on trying it. I find it gross, unappealing, and unsanitary.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it though. A lot of people actually enjoy anal sex, both partners even. A lot of my friends have tried anal sex. Some have accomplished it and continue doing it, while others tried and never plan on experiencing it again.

It hurts. Everyone i've talked to has told me it hurts, and trust me! I'm sure it does. It doesn't matter if he has a big or a little penis, it's just going to hurt. Plain and simple. If you want to try, I have some tips:

1. Use a TON of lubrication. As much as you need. It can get gross and messy, but in the long run it will cut back on the pain and make it hurt a lot less.

2. Have your boyfriend finger your anus. That is so gross, but it's just what you have to do to make the pain less excruciating. Have him use has many fingers as he can to, for lack of a better word, loosen you up.

3. Have him inch it in you little by litte and tell him to go slow. Eventually the pain will decrease, and if it doesn't, stop.

4. Go the the bathroom before and after if you can.

I really want you to read this article before having anal sex;

Iv been doing gymnastics for a couple of years now. At the end of my freshman year I got into it and i was doing really good. I mean i had a backhandspring in like a week, and was adding little tricks to it. Then I tore my ACL and missed 9 months of it. I started back up in Feb. But I came to notice, I think im not doing something right with my backhandspring.

Okay, I go over, But I leave my hands down and wait for ym feet to go over. Is this even right?

I'm pretty sure its not, But I cant remember, And i havent been to gymnastics since March maybe, but I;m going tonight. Can someone tell me if im doing it wrong, what can I do to make it better?

P.s if you do NOT do gymnastics and suggest reading something, I will rate low. I want a gymnast to answer. Thank you and sorry*

I'm not in gymnastics now, but I was a long time ago. I had my backhandspring and was working on my tuck. But I quit. I tried going back a few years ago, but I just couldn't do anything anymore. I still know a lot about it maybe. I know what you are describing, because I used to do it. Techinically it's not wrong. It's still a backhandspring, just a sloppy one. There isn't anything I or anyone on this website could explain to you to make it better. But what I can tell you is to wait until tonight. If you keep practicing an incorrect technique then it will be harder to fix. Let your instructor help you, that's the best advice I can give.

how old do you have to be to get a job at a tanning bed?

I just turned 16 and have been looking for a job forever. I finally got one at Subway. It sucks, but most jobs do.

I tried really hard to get a job at a tanning salon, but they said you had to be 18. Sometimes with exceptions they'll hire 17 year olds, but it's not likely.

Am I just freaked out? But my brother is the one who made these connections.

Last year, I went to bed and my lights were off. My radio was on the other side of the room on the floor. I turned it on with its remote and put the remote on a chair a few feet away from my bed. I was in bed for a few minutes when suddenly -- the radio turns off. I sat up and saw this red light shining over it... it kind of startled me. I was completely awake and not imagining it for sure.

Then about last week or so, I got in bed completely awake and turned off the lights, and about 3 minutes later I hear loud, clear, steady breathing right next to me. Thing is, I rearranged my room recently, and my bed is now where my radio used to be, and the red light was over it??

And today, I was on my computer checking out some sites when I heard steady breaths that weren't quite as loud as that other time, but they were a little bit longer lengthed. It scared the crap out of me, so in shock I just turned around in the chair and staired at the end of my bed -- exactly where the light shone over my radio and where I heard the breaths the other night -- waiting for something to pop out at me any sec, but nothing happened, so I just got so freaked out that I just got up, left, shut my door, and by the time I was trying to explain it to my mom, I was crying my eyes out and could barely even speak I was so freaked out.

Later she went in my room with me and I heard the breathing a few minutes after. (she wanted to see if she could hear it) I was like, "Do you hear it?!" but she was breathing too loudly to hear it over her own lol. She gave up and just left so I hung out downstairs since I didnt wanna go in my room.. later me and my bro checked it out. We waited like a half hour for it to breath. But it didnt, and then he was like, "Didn't you tell me something about a radio last year or something and there was like a red light over it?" and I said "Yeah. In fact,.. it happened over there.." where the breathing came from. He said: "Haha, I think you have like 666 on your wall or something. Somethings out to get you, something is haunting you." and I totally freaked out. He said it creeps him out too.

So what do you think of all this? These weird things happening in the same spot? Coincidence, what is it?? Oh, and sorry for the novel... lol

You've gotten me scared to go to bed now.

Jeez thanks.

Haha, just kidding. But seriously you freaked the hell out of me. Ignore it. Sleep in your room, and if you get scared go get in bed with your mommy.

I'm going back to school in about two months, so the summer vaca just began. When I go back to school I want to be different. I'm a nice person and everything and I talk enough, but I want to be more outgoing and more talkative and different. What should I do to change ?

I'm pretty sure you are 13. Am I right? I'm going to feel dumb if i'm wrong. Haha.

Anyways, i'm going into my Junior year in highschool, and honestly this is the first year I haven't thought about wanting to "change". Or become a "new person" for when school started back. It worked for the first week. But after that, everything went back to the way it was the year before. That's just usually how it goes.

You shouldn't want to change who you are to gain popularity or status. But if you want to make new friends and become an overall more friendly person, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Basically, be nice. That's all anyone can really say. If someone is sitting at a table alone, sit with them or ask them to sit with you. Smile at people and 90% of the time, you will get a smile back. =]

Some girls below me said not to be fake. I agree. But there isn't anything wrong with being friendly. Be nice..to everyone. If that's what you want, then you aren't being fake.

It's not wrong to want to be liked. It's wrong to change who you are in order to be liked.

okay i just turned 13 and i fingure myself 3 or 5 times a day it dosnt affect my social life but friends also havnt got their peroids and i have im just wondering like am i weird or different. like i cant come up with the word but i want to know if im to young?

p.s. thank you ans sorry its sorda long..=)

The fact you've started your period and are fingering yourself before your friends have probably isn't a coincidence. Hormones hit girls at different times. The fact you started your period before your friends means that you are blooming faster than them. This is probably why you started fingering yourself before them as well.

You aren't weird. In fact, you are perfectly normal. 13 is just about the right age for these changes to start happening. Your friends will most likely start catching up within the year. =]

No worries.

I'm going to high school next year, What are all the things I need?

It's better to ask here then ask like the secretary when they're not even real students.

Thanks.

Here are some of the basic things you will need:
1. A 3 ring binder for every class you have.
-If you needed anything other than a binder, someone would have told you.
2. A lot of looseleaf paper.
- You can put a pack of paper in every binder you have. The more paper, the better.
3. Dividers.
- This makes every class a lot easier. Divide the sections of your binder into "notes, homework, tests, quizzes, etc."
4. Four funtion or Scientific Calculator.
- Depending on what Math class you have will determine what calculator you will need. If I were you, I would go ahead and invest in a scientific calculator. They're expensive, but worth it.
5. Pens, pencils, & highlighters.
6. A backback.
- I'm getting a messenger bag this year. I think they're cuter, but it's up to you. As long as it's durable.

Those are the basics, but here are some extra things I wold have if I were you.

- A pencil holder for your locker.
- A pocket sized calender/schedule.
If you are into sports, this is especially good to have. But it's also a good thing to have to write down dates of big tests, homework, or other things you'll need to remember.

- As for the ipod and cellphone, they're against the rules to have at my school. So be sure to find out if you are allowed to have them at yours before bringing them. I always bring my ipod anyways, and listen to it during lunch. Teachers usually don't care, and most always look over it because almost everyone brings them. But I never bring my cell phone. You don't get service at our school, so there is really no point.

- Don't worry about bringing gym clothes on your first day. Most likely you'll just be learning everything about your classes, and probably won't have to dress out. But when you do, bring comfortable clothes, deodorant, and anything else you will need to help you freshen up after the class.

Don't stress. Your teachers will tell you on your first day about what you will need, so if you don't already have it, you still will have time to get it.

Good Luck =]

HUGE PROBLEM. I am going to be a freshman this year, and im going to a highschool where I dont know ANYBODY. I mean, not one person. I cant even tell you how unbelievably scared I am.

Can anyone whose in highschool tell me how easy it is to make friends or something? And has this happened to anyone else? IM REALLY SCARED!
THANKS YOU :/

High School is always scary your first year going. I'm a junior this year, but I remember my first day of high school like it was yesterday. I was so nervous the entire summer and I was dreading August. I knew the people in my grade, but that was it. It seemed that no one else was as nervous as I was, but almost everyone was whether they admitted it or not. It's scary, plain and simple. I actually was so nervous my first day, that I threw up before school. I made myself sick with nerves. But when I got there, and walked into my class, everything got better. I hung out with some of my old friends, and met a lot of new. You will too, so don't be nervous.

It's going to be especially nerving for you, because you aren't going to know anyone. But take this as a possitive. You can make a good reputation for youself. You can start over completely and make people like you. Be friendly, and talk to everyone. It's not going to be as bad as you think. I promise.

is ap spanish hard?

I took 3 semesters of Spanish. Those classes alone were very difficult for me to pass. Matter of fact, I failed Spanish 3.

People like to say that if you are good in English, you'll be good in Spanish. From my personal experience, that's bull. I'm in AP English, and i've been getting A's in English for as long as I can remember. I struggled with Spanish terribly the entire time I took it.

If you are a good student, and are good in Spanish, you may do fine. Just know you will have to study extra hard and you can't slack off in the least. It's very time consuming, so make sure you have the time and ability to do it. =]
