Lately, ive just been really wanting to connect with God, and get to know him like everyone talks about. I want to improve as a christian, and i want to have God change my life so i can change others. No one in my circle of life is really in to that. And i feel that i have so many questions about God that i read in the bible but no one to talk to them about! I am in a youth group, but seriously, no one takes anything seriously, and they get real annoying after awhile, because they are so disrespectful and no one is really looking for that relationship with God. Last night i was reading, and it was saying all this stuff in mathews about not going to heaven if you break a ten commandment, but i thought it was if you just believe in him? did i read it wrong? or what? Also, everytime i read the bible, i start to cry for some reason, and i get really scared. and i dont no why. and i know god wouldnt want that for me at all. Where are some parts in the bible that talk about how much God loves us, and how he frogives us and doesnt expect us to be perfect. Because thats what im struggling with. and how should i start reading the bible because im new to this and i dont understand how to start, like where to start... thank you so much for helping. oh by the way im 14/f (link)
Bless you for seeking a relationship with God. The words in the bible are powerful. When a person is serious about seeking God, God reveals Himself to that person and emotions can get stirred.

Salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone. I don't know what part of Matthew you are referring to, but it's important to understand the context of the passages.

If you are referring to Matthew 19 where Jesus tells the rich young ruler he must obey the commandments, then let me explain: Jesus pointed out that the commandments must be kept in order to have eternal life. To have eternal life, one must be perfect. The rich young ruler said he had kept all of them, but in reality he hadn't; no one has and Jesus knew that. If the ruler had indeed kept them, he would not, in the next breath, have asked Jesus what he lacked. The ruler knew there was something else and he knew he lacked it. When Jesus said go sell everything and follow, the ruler walked away. He was not willing to believe that Jesus was the Way to salvation. Instead the ruler chose the things of this world. God has nothing against us having stuff, but when stuff is more important than Him, it's idolatry which is breaking the first commandment. The ruler had indeed broken the commandments.

It sounds like you have lots of questions and perhaps reading the questions/answers at my column will help. But as far as where to start reading in the bible, I recommend the book of John. Also, if you would like, I would be happy to disciple you. That means I would be happy to answer your questions and encourage your seriousness about God. Just leave questions at my column or my email address.
