I am a Christian and I believe in God... I love God. It's just that more and more I feel I'm drifting away from my Lord. Sometimes I'll pray and promise God I will pray more and talk to him more, but I either forget to and rarely but sometimes I will say in my head, "I need to pray," but then I don't(purposely).
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get closer to God, or ways to strengthen my relationship with the Lord? I don't want to be this way... but when it comes to praying...I just don't. Any ideas? Express your feelings! Thank you so much! (link)

Let me encourage you with this. The simple fact that this is bothering you tells me your heart must be right on. Because this is a desire of your heart and God's will for His children, I have no doubt you will be granted this. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give the desires of your heart."
Now, about prayer.....The bible says in First Thes. 5:17 to pray without ceasing. Praying isn't always "get on your knees in a quiet room" or that verse wouldn't be in the bible. To pray without ceasing means to take the Lord with you wherever you go all day and all night. Meditate on His Word (means to think about what His word says) and ask Him what it means. Tell Him about your friend who is hurting. Ask Him to provide what you need. These things can be done while you're in the shower, washing dishes, or whatever. It can be in your mind, on your lips, or in a journal. But even more importantly, listen. God doesn't shout; He whispers. So quiet your spirit and and let Him speak to you. Prayer is conversation not just your words.
That's not to say you don't set aside time to get on your knees in a quiet place and spend time with Him. Quiet time is necessary. What I do is I read from the Old Testament before I go to sleep at night and the New Testament before I get up in the morning. I read whether I want to or not. Then as I fall asleep at night or go about my day, I digest what I've read which helps me focus on Him.
Making promises to God is a good way to set yourself up for failure as you well know. Satan will do everything to get you in a place of discouragement. So instead of making promises, tell the Lord what's on your mind, ask Him for help, and then trust Him.
