Okay...I've had my period for exactly 2 years as of December 5. I want to use tampons, and I know how to put them in and all the dangers. But I have a few other questions:
Does it hurt going in/while its in/coming out?
What is an appropriate size?
What exactly does Toxic Shock Sydrome do to your body?
How do you know that you have TSS?
I rate. (link)

it doesnt really hurt, but the first couple of times feel uncomfortable. i wasted about half the box trying to put them in the first time, because it just didn't feel like they culd go any further. (i would've given up, but i was on the swimming team and waay too embarrased to ask my coach.) just keep pushing it in until it suddenly feels comforable - that's when it's inside.
while it's in, you barely feel it, or, ideally, you don't feel it at all. after 2-3 times, inserting the tampon doesn't take any effort and doesn't cause any discomfort. pulling it out doesn't hurt either, but there's some resistence because the tampon has absorbed liquid and became much bigger.
the answers to your questions about TSS can be found on the instructions sheet to any tampons, so just make sure to read it very closely.
