If God gives humanity purpose and meaning, what gives God purpose and meaning?
Is God meaningless and purposeless?! If so, wouldn't that mean that humans are just meaningless and purposeless, and that their "meaning" and "purpose" given by God is purely arbitrary?
religon is everybodys own opinion. think about it for yourself.. maybe even read the Bible here and there for answers..
(Rating: 5) It seems to me that statements like "God exists" or "God created the universe" or "God gives our lives purpose" are statements of FACT. They are not statements of subjective opinion like "God tastes good." For instance, when it comes to questions concerning whether your favorite food is cheese, there is no logical contradiction involved when people answer positively or negatively. Two different people can feel that cheese is bad and good, respectively, and there is no contradiction. However, matters of fact, like the examples I mentioned earlier, cannot be validated by two different appeals to contradictory beliefs. God can not, obviously, exist and not exist. Cheese can be someone's favorite and someone else's least favorite food, but God cannot have created the universe and also not have created the universe. That is generally how I distinguish between matters of fact and matters of opinion, and that is why I do NOT think it is a matter of opinion when it comes to many religious questions.
When I ask you what's your favorite food, that's a matter of opinion! When I ask you whether God exists, you have to make a statement of fact! If two people disagree about favorite foods, that's expected and even normal. But when two people disagree over whether God exists, one of them is obviously wrong, and the other is obviously right! They can't both be right!
