can you wear a pad while swimming? or is a tampon reccomended.. can you not wear any? (link)

Where are you swimming? If you're swimming in the ocean, you could go free, if you're in a pool, you could i guess, since movement often stems the flow, but I wouldn't risk it. Whatever you do DO NOT WEAR A PAD! You'll end up with the soggy diaper look, and everyone'll know. My best advice, use the tampon.
