what exactly is Mardi Gras? and how is it celebrated? I know its coming up (feb 8) so im cutious because i`ll be away vacationing and i was curious how i can party it up lol. So if you can tell me what it is and how u celelbrate it thanks

I live in Louisiana. Mardi Gras is a catholic holiday, the day before Ash Wednesday and originally all the catholics couldn't eat red meat during Lent(the time b/w A.W. and Easter). They eat and party before Lent,which is Mardi Gras. Fat Tuesday if you know french. I'm not positive about the red meat part as I'm not catholic. Now all the beads and parades are just part of the party. The flashing was not in the original tradition. The reason it is popular in New Orleans is a very catholic city.
