My name is Elly and I am 18 years old. I live in Michigan and I graduated High School in '07. I'm currently attending a great college, but I'm home for the summer. It's too nice outside to sit on the computer all day, so I might not be as active on here as I would like.I guess a good way to describe me is experienced. I've discovered a lot about life and I can't wait to discover more... while having fun at the same time of course! ...BUT, like everyone, I have experienced things in life that I rather wish I hadn't. And I also feel that those bad experiences qualify me to help others with this column.
I have been in a serious relationship for over two and a half years now. I personally know that love is a difficult thing to nurture. It takes a lot of work. Life is NOT a fairytale where two people can simply love each other and everything will just fall into place. It doesn't work like that in the real world.
People on Advicenators are starting to disappoint me. Everyone says "ooh I want to help! I've experienced EVERYTHING!" Yet, I can't tell you how many questions I see with answers like "you could have googled that" or "we're not going to do your homework" or "I'm so sick of 'wow does he like me?!' questions." I used to sort of be like that, but now I realize how hypocritical that is. If I know the answer to a question, I will answer to the best of my ability without making you feel stupid for asking it in the first place. Advicenators is going to turn into a pretty nasty place if people just keep brushing off questions like that.
Rate or don't rate. I really don't care. But don't give me a 1 just because I tell you something you don't want to hear. Go to your mom for advice if you want sugarcoated answers.

Are laptops & computers the same thing?
Yes and no. They both can do all the same things, but a laptop is a lot more portable. A computer, formally known as a PC, is too bulky to carry around to, say, work or school.
Someone told me they scanned regular pictures through their printer to get them on their camera.
Can you do this with a Dell printer, or no?

Some printers have scanners built into them. If it's just a random Dell printer, I doubt you'd be able to. I'm sure you would know if your printer had a scanner on it.
I'm sure Dell probably makes printers with scanners on them, but without knowing the model number of your printer there is no way for us to tell you.
I've never heard of scanning a picture from a printer to a camera. Did you perhaps mean computer? Or do you mean downloading pictures from your camera directly to your printer?
Look up your printer's model number on the Dell web site to read the manual. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for there.
okay so i'm planning on redoing my room soon, and i wanna do like 3 of the walls, different shades of brown, and then one cheetah skin, but i'm not sure how to do that. i don't wanna do wallpaper, because its hard to get off. i was think maybe fabric but idk how...any suggestions??
Go up to Joann's or some craft store in your area. Any place that sells artsy things. They should have a bunch of stencils you could choose from. Maybe it would be a good idea to call ahead and see if they have stencils with a cheetah spot design with which you can paint the spots with.
There are also giant foam stamps that you put a thin layer of paint on and stamp it on the wall. These aren't like regualy stamps you use with ink; I'm talking about big ones made especially for painting projects. Those work well too, but I'm thinking the stencils are probably more accident-free.
I'm thinking fabric might be a bit much, but it depends on how creative you can get with it. Talk to one of the specialists at the craft store and they can help you out no problem.
Recently, there is a rumor circulating with the male population at my school that I like this guy named.. let's call him 'Bob'. Bob and I talk a lot, and we're pretty close. There's this other guy, Dylan, who noticed us talking [when we talk, we stand very close]. So, supposedly, Dylan talked to Bob, and was like 'Hmm, so you and [my name] were flirting again?" and Bob goes "Yeah." Dylan is convinced that Bob likes me.
Today, Bob confronted me and was like 'Yeah Dylan is a pansy, he said that you like me, whatever, he's gay', stuff like that. It almost seems like Bob is avoiding me. He and my other friend talk a ton, but I'm pretty sure that they're really just friends. Every time I try to start up a conversation with Bob, things just get really awkward, it's not as comfortable as it was talking to him now.
I really don't want to lose my friendship with Bob, I really do like him [maybe even more as a friend], but I've seen him kind of act like a jerk. My friend jammed her finger against her locker, and he kind of smirked.. I'm thinking of just moving on, and letting him come to me, because he's sending me mixed signals. I really don't know if he likes me, or not...
I need advice.
He's probably just shy. Guys tend to shy away from girls they like when their friends start realizing whats going on. He wants to avoid embarassment (and possibly a heartbreak from being shot down).
You should continue talking to him as a friend. Try and start conversation. If he keeps avoiding you, call him out on it. Tell him you don't understand why he's shunning you and it's not fair.
Maybe once you guys get back to talking again you can figure out if it's worth taking your relationship to the next level.
But for right now, you need to get him back in your friend zone at least. If all fails and he continues to avoid you, move on. He's immature.

He probably just doesn't know what else to say. I think you're just taking it too much out of context.
Just be happy that he's calling you and that he was thinking of you so much that he decided to call you up on the phone.
I really don't think it's a bad thing. He's just not to good at starting conversations. Either that or he really is bored and was thinking of it. Just know that it is highly unlikely that's the ONLY reason he calls you.
Alright so I have this fear of having a needle enter my body. It's not the pain that scares me it's just that someone is sticking a sharp object into me. I can't help that I'm scared of it. Before I get it done all I do is cry. My parents always tell me quit being a baby and suck it up. They don't understand. This really is something that bothers me. Also they have to hold me down to actually get the needle in me. I hate it soooooo much. I pray before I have to get anything done that god will help me and get me better. So what I am asking you is to give me some pointers to get overs this. Please I need serious help.
Try relaxing yourself at least an hour before you know you're going to get a shot or have blood drawn. Breathe in for four counts and exhale for six counts. Do this v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y for maybe a half hour and you will feel a little calmer.
Constantly tell yourself: "This is not going to hurt me. This is good for me. This is important for my health." Bring along an Ipod and listen to calm, soothing music.
Needlephobia is most definitely a real condition recognized by doctors. Next time you are in to see you doctor, tell he/she what's going on. There may be some minor calming medication you could take prior to receiving a shot that will keep you calm. It's important that you stay calm during shots so you won't cause injury to yourself; that's why taking medication that will sedate you isn't really that out of the ordinary.
There also may be a way for your doctor to simply numb the area so you won't be able to feel it. All you'd have to do is look the other way and you won't even know what's going on. Perhaps if your doctor numbs the area, and you distract yourself by talking to your parent or listening to music, maybe you'll forget about the sharp object being inserted into your body.
Like I said, it's important to talk to your doctor. You're not alone.

This really is a hard situation to be in. You need to really ask yourself how well you know and trust your girlfriend. I mean, you obviously know your girlfriend way better than the guy who said that stuff. If she has been faithful and truthful to you in the past, I would believe her.
However, she did let him touch her, and that's a cause for concern right there. It might be time for a break. It doesn't seem like your girlfriend really knows what she wants since she's going back and forth between you and her ex.
Trust your gut on this one. If something doesn't feel right, even a tiny bit, move on.
i missed 6 days of school because i was very very sick. so clearly im going to have a LOT of make up work to do.

Get an organized list of all the assignments you have to make up and make sure to get the specific due dates from your teachers. Due dates are very important so you don't end up losing points!!!
Ask a few of your friends to fill you in on notes and lectures that you missed.
Since you missed like a week, you teachers will probably give a week to catch up. Use your time wisely by spending several hours a day doing homework. If you can, try and tackle each subject one day at a time (if your due dates will allow it). For example, finish all of your math in one night and turn it in the next day. The following day, finish all of your english, etc.
It depends on whatever makes you comfortable.
my nose is always reallyyy red when i get back from school, the rest of my face is fine, but my nose is like a flaming fireball. I already put concealer and powder foundation over it...anything else to do??

It's hard to say because we don't know why exactly it's red. Definitely go ahead and try putting lotion on it or something while at school. Do you try reapplying your concealer and foundation periodically throughout the day and not just before school? That could be a problem too.
It would probably be best to go to a dermatologist to see why the heck it does that. If you don't want to do that right away, go to Macy's, or any other department store that offers them, and get a free makeover. The make-up artist can offer tips and techniques that will help you out.

I've asked a similar question before....but here goes again...I got my period on the 12th of february...it was over by the 17th. I had unprotected sex with my husband on the 20th and he cummed in me. I peed and took a shower right away that doesn't help I know but I did it anyways. We did this once before had unprotected sex after my period maybe 3,4 days after and didn't become pregnant. Anyways now almost a week after...I am feeling bloated and kind of think about puking....is that because I think I am pregnant....24/7 cuz I know even if I am I can't have symptoms this early. It is very easy for your mind to trick your body into thinking it is something (i.e. pregnant) when it really isn't.
It seems like you're pretty worried about it, so of course your body is going react like you're pregnant. Try not to worry about it until you can take a test and know for sure.
It seems like I can't wear ANY shirt anymore. I look too top heavy or that I gained 10 pounds. I'm not sure what kind of shirt would flatter my chest or body overall. I was told to get a bra minimizer but I don't know where to get one and how well it works.. Any tips? Someone told me to wear babydoll shirts but it makes me look pregnant. I no longer fit in most of my shirts because they are an extra small haha. So I'm going to go out to buy some basics [like from Forever21] but I don't know exactly what to get that would make my boobs look smaller
Minimizers work decent enough. The way the bra supports your breasts separates them and makes them appear a little smaller. You can get them pretty much anyway bras are sold. Just check the tag for whether or not it's a minimizing bra.
The sucky thing about big boobs is you have where shirts that a couple sizes bigger so they will fit. Try getting some v-neck shirts that cut sort of low and layer with a cami/tank top underneath. Experiment with different T-shirts, blouses, and sweaters. Don't wear sweaters without a slit in the front. It will make your breasts look even bigger. Get different colored tank tops and wear them under button-up blouses and button up the blouse until it's right under your breasts. That always looks cute.
Babydoll shirts are definitely a big no-no for the exact reason you mentioned. Unfortunately, hoodies aren't that flattering either. Again, anything with a v or scoop neck is what you should aim for.

Im Catholic, and I need to pick a confirmation saint. If you are catholic, I want to know, how did you pick yours? (I know alot of people pick their own names, but there is no saint with my name.)
I want to pick one that has to do with like, anti-war. See, I strongly beleive that killing is never ok for any reason, so there should never be a good reason for war. So basically, when I make my speech the night I get confirmed, I want to present a strong anti-war message to the audience, you know what I mean? (I almost decided not to get confirmed because I'm furious with the hypocracy of catholics that think the War in Iraq is ok.)
So my question is, basicly, what saint should I choose to give my speech about that fits my views well?
You should do a research on all the saints and see which one you most admire.
My saint was Joan of Arc. I looked up to her because she faced horrible evils all to defend her love of God. Yes, she did go into some battles, so she may not be the saint for you.

I'm glad you think the way you do. Seeing lots of different people is good for you. It will actually help you grow as a person and see what kinds of qualities you want in the person you want to love.
I agree with Younggrandma. Sex IS a completely different story, though. As long as you are having healthy, safe relationships and not giving yourself away to ever guy you meet, there is nothing wrong with dating lots of different people.
Keep doing what you're doing. Don't be in a hurry. Because one day, you're going to meet someone you want to spend the rest of your life with and you're going to know exactly who you're going to be looking for. You're not going to find that at 14.
Ok well, I recently had sex and I got my period the next day. But ever since I got my period, my vagina has been hurting REALLY bad (inside of it). And it burns when I pee. I'm REALLY scared! Anyone have an idea of what it might be?
It is possible that you have a bladder infection, but nothing can be said for sure.
You need to go to a doctor and get it checked out. If it is some type of infection, it won't go away on its own.
No one has to know you had sex. They will probably just take a urine sample and see what's up.
