Go high carb, low fat, whole foods, plant-based VEGAN! I went vegan this year and have lost 40 pounds, with minimal exercise, and eating AS MUCH as I desire bringing down my BMI from 30 to 24. I weigh less now than I did throughout high school, as an overweight teenager, even when I exercised for hours while on Junior Varsity and Varsity sports teams. I went to my annual physical earlier this month, and even my doctor was in shock.
My goal for next year is to lose 30-40 more pounds, I just need to start exercising on a regular basis. Nothing crazy, just 30-60 minutes of jogging, Ballet Beautiful, bike riding.. things like that.
I think it's amazing what I've accomplished so far, just by changing my diet, though. It's a lot easier to go vegan than it seems. I was never vegetarian, I went from being able to eat an entire box of pizza or entire tub of ice cream in one sitting to a full-fledged vegan. I now spend a lot less money on groceries, have more energy (never need caffeine, and never feel lethargic like I used to on a regular basis), have more concentration, am learning to cook, and etc. Try it for a week, that's how I started, and I felt so good that I just kept going, and it's now been 5 months! You can get every nutrient from plant foods, including protein!

The only vitamin you need to supplement is B12, and one I personally recommend is Garden of Life's B12 spray (cause I personally hate swallowing pills, and methylcobalamin is better than cyanocobalamin). You can buy it at any health foods store (Whole Foods, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, etc.), or online.

So, I had a moment of weakness. There's this bag of marshmallows my family left in the cupboard that had been taunting me, and 3 marshmallows later here we are. Anyway, I've been on this low-carb diet for a solid month now, and have been losing a lot of weight. I wanna know what effect this cheat day has on my body. Does it stop the whole weight loss process? Does it all start over? Will I stop losing weight? If so, how long will it take to get the ball rolling again? I have a goal date, and don't want this ONE day to screw everything up. Thanks for reading!! (link)

how much weight would I lose if I didn't eat for a week? (not saying I am planning on doing it so please don't give me lectures) I am actually just wondering because people always tend to say that you wont lose much and gain everything back and more afterwards. But this never happened to me. I was a little overweight for a while and lost around 20 pounds by not eating. I weighed around 132 lbs (I'm not very tall) And that was a year ago and I still didn't gain anything back. I don't really exercise either. (I know it's unhealthy, as I said please don't give me lectures) .. so why is it that I didn't gain it all back? I have changed the way I eat though, I eat normally now, before that I used to eat more than I should so maybe that's the reason? And once I felt really sad and didn't eat for 2 days and I lost around 4 pounds. I read that you'd only lose around 5 pounds if you don't eat for a week. Apparently not with me. I can feel how I'm getting thinner and thinner every day if I eat very little. I once lost 6 pounds in one week by only eating 500 calories or less a day. (and again I know it's unhealthy. I tend to go on crazy diets) But obviously the whole motabolism slowing down and not losing weight rule isn't really thaaat true right? And I dont think i only lost muscle either, cause I pretty much got rid of my flabby tummy which is most deffinetly not made of a lot of muscle :p so please don't tell me that I shouldn't go on crazy diets but rather tell me how this works and why I didn't gain anything back and why I'm able to actually lose quite a lot by starving and not gain it back. I am quite sick of the metabolsmn slowing down and not losing anything cause your body clings to everything he can get myth ._. Obviously it doesn't tend to be that way for everyone. (link)

I recently began the low carb atkins diet, and i feel very very dysfunctional. I feel as if i cannot attend class due to lack of energy, nausea, and constant heart palpitations. it takes an effort to stand up or move my ligaments. when will i get over this? will i ever get over this? are heart palpitations normal for an 18 year old girl? the problem is, my diet was solely based on all carbs and sugars so i feel as if this is all a reaction to readjusting to a healthy lifestyle. i am not doing atkins for losing weight specifically, but to set up a healthy style for myself in the future. (weight gain is very common in my family). my family raised me to eat carbs for every single meal and i became just as addicted as someone is to nicotine. it's like i can't live without it.
how long will this atkins diet "flu" last? (I'm really scared, guys). do people go into cardiac arrest from this diet? i'm asking this because i am concerned with these heart palpitations.. but i'm trying to stick with this diet no matter what. someone please help me asap. (link)

I'm thirteen years old and female, and I think I weigh a little more than I should. I'm four feet and eleven inches and almost ninety pounds. I have gained a lot of weight recently, and I don't like it. When I was in fourth grade, I was only four feet tall and 48 pounds. I wish I could stay that way.
I think I need to start eating less, exercising more, or something like that. Whenever I eat more than I usually do, I feel awful about it. So far, I have tried to make sure I don't eat too much at meals, and I do a lot of sit-ups and yoga. When I start school again, I'll be doing PE every day, too. I'm trying to eat only 1300 calories a day. Is that good enough, or should I eat less than that?
No matter what I try, I always end up gaining weight in the end. I would really appreciate any advice on how to lose weight. Thank you! (link)

I am 17 f and am the fattest in my year, I know for most teenagers being thinner is just a part of anxiety and hormones however I have been told by doctors that if I don't start losing weight soon I am going to have to deal with several health problems when I am older like heart attacks and diabeties. I have been given diet plans by doctors but I just can't stick to them, it's starting to affect my confidence because people are so judgemental. I need a way to convince the rest if my body that it is a time for a change. I need diets that are easy and effective. Because it is not just my physical health that it will be affecting, please help. Thanks (link)

I'm going on a diet and I only want to eat around 500 calories a day (with one cheat day every two weeks of course ;)). I was wondering if this is safe/ healthy as long as I get all if my vitamins and nutrients. I've been eating avocado, almonds, milk, oranges, apples, bananas, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, oatmeal, spinach, tomatoes, grapes, watermelon, and of course water. I'm planning on expanding the list if I do this long term. I eat 3-4 small meals per day about 150 calories each. I exercise a little bit as well. So is this safe? I've heard that if I do this my body will start eating my muscle so I've put the diet on hold until I know for sure. If this isn't safe, I'd like some suggestions to improve my diet. Thanks! (Oh and by the way, I'm a woman if that matters. (link)

You need more than 500 calories. Follow my advice, before you end up in an emergency room.

I'm 15, female, 5'5", and 115 pounds.
I danced for six years growing up – I took ballet from when I was seven until I was thirteen and quit so I could focus on my music career. Of course, after quitting, my entire physical build changed, and I went from being 105 pounds to 125. I also had a lot less energy and was constantly tired. About ten months ago now, I started exercising regularly again, mostly at my mother's insistence – I started out by just doing Zumba two hours per week, and now, I do Beachbody's T25 exercise videos every day and I've graduated from the Alpha series to the Beta. I have mostly regained the physical condition I was in before I quit dance, and I have energy again.
This summer, I went to a seven-week music intensive. I really, really need my life to be very structured, so music camp was an incredible relief from home life for me. I improved a lot as a musician, and unexpectedly, I also lost about 15 pounds. I did the T25 exercise videos regularly at camp, but what made the biggest difference were the 3-5 miles that I walked on an average day, that I could eat however I wanted without my parents dictating my diet, and that the food there was really gross, so it wasn't tempting to overeat. I realized exactly how much I overeat at home, and I felt so, so much better at camp when I ate proper portions. However, I got home three days ago and my mom instantly freaked out about my weight loss. In the past three days, she's insisted that I eat as much as she does, and she's on a diet to gain weight because she has such a high metabolism that she naturally has 5% body fat. She refuses to recognize that I don't have the same metabolism that she does and says she doesn't want me to get anorexia when I say that I'm full or that I don't want to overeat. In the past three days, I've eaten 1,800 calories per day instead of the 1,200 I ate at camp and gained 5 pounds. I already feel unhealthy, but my mom said she would take me to a psychiatrist if I didn't stop insisting that I eat healthier.
I really just want to be healthy, and I honestly feel better when I weigh less. I don't think that I have anorexia, nor is my primary motivation for losing weight appearance. What should I do? (link)

Go vegan. I went vegan this year and have lost 40 pounds, with minimal exercise, bringing down my BMI from 30 to 24. I weigh less now than I did throughout high school, as an overweight teenager, even when I exercised for hours while on Junior Varsity and Varsity sports teams.
I now spend a lot less money on groceries, have more energy (never need caffeine, and never feel lethargic like I used to on a regular basis), have more concentration, and etc.

I'm not sure if this has to deal with anything, but I have been on birth control for 2 years now. I switched birth control pills 7 months ago. The doctor's have prescribed me the pills that would help me skip my period and only have it every three months.
Last year, I started off losing interest in meat. I would eat it whenever it is in front of me, I would order things that contain meat. Months later, I started becoming tired of meat and I wasn't able to finish it, then give it off to the person next to me. Now, I am nauseous of meat, whenever I think of something in particular, when I see something, I get nauseous. The other day, I ate some wings and then got tired of it and ate the rest of it the day afterward.
I'm not sure what it is, but lately I have also been craving for pickles and milkshakes. I heard those were common for pregnant women. So, I took a pregnancy test, and it was automatically negative. My doctor said that if I try to skip my period, my body will trick itself into thinking that its pregnant, could this be it? But if so, it doesn't make sense when it comes to me feeling nauseous towards meat.
Any opinions? What do you think it is? Am I slowly becoming a vegetarian without my choice? (link)

I'm vegan, too. It's psychological. You can get through this. Make smoothies using flax seed and chia seeds for omega-3s, and eat enough protein rich plant foods and then you'll know that you don't need anything from fish. Make sure you're eating enough, too, and you're generally eating a low fat, high carb, whole foods, plant based diet. Limit vegan junk. I know you're already vegan, which is great, but try to educate yourself more, so I'll give you the videos below, if you haven't already seen some of them.

I've cut my daily calorie intake from 4000 to 1500, I'm drinking lots of water and green tea every day (they're the only beverages I drink now), I've cut out crisps, chocolate, cakes, and all forms of junk food. I exercise for 30 minutes a day. I've been doing this for 10 days so why haven't I lost any weight? (link)

Hi guys! So For a really long time (at least three years) I've been crazy worried about my weight. I'm female, 5'9, and weigh 136lbs. I almost never eat over 950 calories unless I'm out of town for the day, and I go to the gym and work off around 150-200 calories. On days I don't go to the gym, I eat around 700. Today I ate 644 calories. My mom thinks I may be giving myself low blood sugar, and my dad thinks Ive put myself into starvation mode, and I think it may be an eating disorder. The thing about this is, I have another condition that makes me pass out more often than normal, and when I eat too few calories I black out and sometimes pass out. What will happen if I continue eating like this? And is low calorie intake the same thing as under eating? I know calories is what you need to live, so does anyone have an answer? And by the way, I honestly don't think I can stop this eating habit, just in case some say eat food with higher calories. Thank you in advance! (link)

Hi for whoever answers this! Ok, so I looked all over the Internet and couldn't find an answer so i was hoping maybe one of you would know the answer. Ok, so I heard for women if they eat less than 1200 calories their body could go into starvation mode. I eat about half those calories, but I still eat plenty. I just eat things that are low in calories and don't overeat. If I start taking in more calories or even eat sugar, then I'll feel like I can't stop. Plus for me, these diets are addicting and I'm perfectly fine with that. I also work off about 130 calories at least each day so it's like my net is around 500 calories. If I eat more, I'll stretch my stomach out, and if I eat things in higher calories, then I'll get back to eating fatty foods, and I feel healthy foods will, well, keep me healthier. I have felt so much better since starting this diet, but I heard that these diets can burn out your metabolism. Will this happen if your still eating enough and have high metabolism foods (egg whites, coffee, green tea, grilled chicken, etc)? To be honest, I'm a little too worried to stop this diet because I always go on and off with this diet and every time I "take a break" from it, I can never seem to stop eat fatty foods and I get to where I don't want to exercise as much. So after hearing all of this, is this diet still ok for me since I eat enough and eat high metabolism foods? It's probably not gonna change the way I eat, I just really need to know. Thank you so much for your time! (link)

I want to start packing lunch next year (I'm going to highschool) but I don't want to have a plain peanut butter and jelly everyday. I want it to be healthy but not repetitive. But my parents are also on a budget. Plus I don't want my lunch food to get eaten by my family. And I also don't want my mom to have to rush to the store every night before school to get my lunch. So do you have any tips for packing lunch? Or ever lunch recipes? (link)

Go vegan. I went vegan this year and have lost 40 pounds, with minimal exercise, bringing down my BMI from 30 to 24. I weigh less now than I did throughout high school, as an overweight teenager, even when I exercised for hours while on Junior Varsity and Varsity sports teams.
I now spend a lot less money on groceries, have more energy (never need caffeine, and never feel lethargic like I used to on a regular basis), have more concentration, and etc.

Lately I've been dieting, but my birthday is coming up and I'm having a party to celebrate me becoming 17. I want to be able to enjoy myself but I'm afraid I'll gain weight. I decided it would be best to take some supplements for metabolism boost, but I would like some recommendations considering I've never taken any before. I'll be celebrating my birthday this weekend and next weekend is the party. Vacation is the beginning of next month and then comes my sister's birthday. So that's why I want some pills for this. and something I can buy at walmart please because that where I go every week. But nothing expensive please. Something around $10. Thank you! (link)

I've looked for the answer on the Internet, so does anyone know if grapefruit juice is good for burning fat like a regular grapefruit? I would get the kind that is 100%, but I can't stand the texture of fruit, so mine would have to be juice. Will I get the same, or at least similar, weight loss results with juice instead of straight fruit? (link)
