You know in the movie "Mean Girls" the character Regina George? One of my very best friends Katherine has a lot in common with her. First off, everyone wants her to like them. If she walks to the left, so will everyone else. If she's sad, everyone wants to be the one to solve her problem so that she will like them best. Even I find myself falling into this trap. She's mostly like this when she is with her other friend, Emma. Emma and Katherine can both be very nice people, but not when they are together. I love hanging out with Katherine, but when Emma walks in the door, I disapear. Its not fair! How do I make her stop doing this to me?

I saw the title of your question and I knew I had to answer you. Because it's the awesomest title ever, hands down.

What I think you should do is talk to Katherine about how you're feeling. Try not to be accusatory, so she doesn't get defensive; approach her calmly and casually, then pull her off to the side. (Actually, it would be better to talk to her NOT at school, to avoid drama. It's best if you have her over at your house). You may want to repeat this with Emma as well.

If Katherine is a good friend, she'll be receptive to your concern and be open to talking about it. But if her response is more on the side of bitchy, maybe it's time to find a new friend.

This is a tough problem (I've been in your place more than a few times, trust me), and I hope you can work it out. Good luck!

Is the book Lovely Bones a good book? I just want to know if its worth reading.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

It's an amazing book. It's probably my favorite of all time; it's haunting, but it's also touching and at times, sweet. If you're easily creeped out, though, perhaps it isn't the best book for you. But if you're pretty tolerant, just don't read it at night and you'll be fine :)

I hope I helped!

P.S. If you want more opinions, here are the customer reviews of the book of amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/0316666343/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/104-6921927-0056731?ie=UTF8&customer-reviews.sort%5Fby=-SubmissionDate&n=283155.

The teacher is going to yell at me once I get back to school because I didn't do my work in this group project.

It was to write a big poem about something. So yeah, I had these 2 girls in my group to work with. They already got started. and .. well I can't work with them!

They weren't speaking ENGLISH .. and I don't know spanish! They both are like best friends so I couldn't butt into the conversation.. (I'm uber shy x3554343 :[)
And they were working on their own and each person had to write 3 stanzas.. but I had no clue what they wrote.
So i didn't want to repeat and get in trouble..

Is it really my fault?

They both got up and walked away right in the middle of it. They both worked together and forgot about me.

I dont know.

Hi,
That really is a bummer. I know what it's like to be a group that's hard to work with.

I think the best thing you should do when you get back is ask to see your teacher, preferably before the project is due (even if you have to do it during lunch period). Explain to him/her what you just wrote, and about how it was hard for you. You should probably mention that it would have been better for you to come to him/her earlier on in the project (your teacher is more likely to cut you slack if you take responsibility), but that it was just overwhelming for you. Try to work something out with your teacher; if you're lucky, s/he will talk to your groupmates with you.

Good luck, I hope I helped!

i recently broke up w/ my girlfriend so have invited lots of girls to my myspace and about .5 have accepted. i need advice about what to talk about when i send messages b/c i don't have much to go by as they are still strangers. and i don't know how long to wait before making contact. please note, i think that all of them are cute and am interested in dating but don't want to come across as desperate or needy. any suggestions? thanks

Hi,
I think probably the best thing to do would be to ask them about their interests. Things like "What kind of music do you like?" or "What's your favorite movie?" are simple, easy to answer, and can tell you a lot about a person. You can also look at their profiles, and if you see something you have in common (like that you both play soccer, for example, or if you both like the same band), follow up on that. You don't have to write long messages, just something friendly to show you're cool.

Good luck, and I hope I helped!

The other night me and my friends did a weejee board (not sure how spelt) and it really worked. It was sooo scary. We want to do it again, because these are people like my friends dads and uncles and stuff and they just wanna keep talking to them. Does anyone know if there are any risks of playing this game...or any important things i should know about it?

Oujia boards are *completely harmless.* They seriously do not mean anything. Since they have always been so popular, don't you think you would've heard creepy stories in the news about people getting killed by evil spirits or something? They are a ton of fun to play with your friends, and nothing more. The only risk to playing is that it's scary for some people. That said, if it makes you uncomfortable and you don't WANT to play, tell your friends no.

I hope I helped!

how do I know if the poem I wrote is really a poem? I think it's pretty good, but it's more of a short, flowy sounding, deep story. It doesn't rhyme or anything and i'm wondering if I should consider it a poem or a story?

Hi,
Here's the www.dictionary.com definition of a poem: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/poem.

Personally, I think poetry is one of the freest forms of expression, and that no one can tell you whether or not it's right. As many people before me have said, there are specific types of poetry, and it doesn't sound like your poem fits into any of them. That definitely doesn't mean what you have written is not a poem, though. If you say it's a poem, it is. But if you wanted to use it as a short story, go right ahead.

I hope I helped!

What are some bands similer to the band Jack's Mannequin?

Hi,
Although I personally don't know any bands similar to them, you should try going to www.pandora.com. There you can type in the name of any band/artist (or any of their songs), and they'll play you a bunch of songs that sound like the band you put in. It's free and easy, and you can download whatever songs you like yourself on iTunes or Limewire.

I hope I helped!

Just a random question, but everyone wishes at 11:11. Why is this? Why was this started? Thanks much!

Building on the person before me:

Yeah, basically 11:11 is the only palindrome number. It's also cool because on most clocks, you can draw two lines of symmetry through it. Wishing on 11:11 is like wishing on a shooting star or an eyelash; it's just a cute thing a lot of teenagers like to do.

I hope I helped!

how do i make my font bigger on myspace

Hi,
Go here to http://whateverlife.com/myspacebasics2.php and scroll down a bit until you see the section of different font sizes; it's pretty self-explanatory. In the future, it's easier and quicker to use google to find things like this out. Just search "myspace font sizes" or "basic html" and about a million sites will come up.

I hope I helped!

I stumbled across this site by accident. I seriously doubt many of you have the qualifications to give real people proper advice. After reading some of your responses to people's inquiries i was quite astonished as to how teenagers find they are able to give quality advice and information to real people in need with such little life experience. If you ask me you are not in a place to give your "personal opinion" when people truly believe you are giving them the right answer simply because you claim "people think i give really good advice". (eg. i am still at a loss as to how a 17 year old girl thinks she can give advice to someone regarding conceiving a child) I know you try to come across as a "godsend" to poeple who are in some sort of personal crisis and need a fast easy answer but the truth is, in the cases where it really counts, there rarely is one; at least not from you.

What you don't understand is that nowhere on this site does it say this advice is professional. Of course getting advice from an experienced adult is significantly better in many cases; that goes without saying. But this website provides a place for people to get answers when they don't necessarily have complete access to a trained professional.

Furthermore, sometimes someone doesn't need to be trained to be qualified to give advice. Are you saying you have never asked a friend for a perspective on a personal problem before? We all, at some point, ask others for help. We can choose to agree with them and take action in the way they suggested, or we can say no if we think they're wrong. The people who ask questions on this site realize that some of the answers they receive may be really, really stupid, and if that is the case, they don't have to pay attention to them. They're just looking for someone to provide new ideas for them.

Finally, you obviously haven't spent much time on this site, which I find odd, since you have been so quick to attack it. Many of the questions here are like "What kind of camera should I get?" or "Where can I find a cute myspace layout?" Do you really need to be a trained professional to answer those? I think not.

I know it must be thrilling for you to get up on a soap box and critize an enormous group of people. But maybe you should find a new hobby; this site has helped a lot of people through problems, both frivolous and serious, and I personally don't find anything wrong with that.

13/f
i live in new jersey and on monday my family and i are going to rome for 10 days.
Now i know that when were in Rome were going to do all the touristy stuff so im not asking for like sighseeing stuff. I need stuff to do on the plane and when were like in our hotel room.

i bought a bunch of books, but thats about all i have so far.

suggestions? i need soon cuz we are leaving in like two days! thanks!

Ideas:
-Bring a CD player and CD's or an iPod. Seriously, it will save your life. If you bring a CD player, bring TONS of extra batteries. If you bring an iPod, take your charger.

-When you're at the airport, stock up on magazines. They're only like $3 each, you can throw them away when you're done, and they are super-entertaining.

-Buy one of those books of crossword puzzles/word searches/sudokus (which ever you like best) and a pen. They can make the time pass really easily, and they're good for your mind :)

-I would recommend taking an eye mask with you, so you can sleep on the plane (if you aren't sensitive to light you probably don't need one).

-Get a bunch of Rome guidebooks and Italian phrasebooks for the plane. Research places you might want to go and memorize useful phrases. If you have an iPod, there are lots of Podcasts you can get to learn Italian, which are really fun and useful.

-This is pretty old school, but just a regular pack of cards can save you from boredem, especially if you're going with siblings, but you can also just play solitaire.

-Get a travel diary. Every day, write down what you did and how you feel. It's also really useful just to have paper handy, so you can draw/write poetry/play hangman.

I hope I helped, and have a fabulous time in Roma! (make sure to eat LOTS of gelato, it's amazing).

I'm taking a poll and I'm curious what people think the most spoken language is. Don't search the site or look at other people's answers and see. I want what YOU think.

I am pretty sure that most people's MOTHER TONGUE (first language) is Mandarin Chinese, but if you're asking what is the most spoken in general, I'd say English.

I'm getting pretty bored with the music on my ipod and I want some new bands on there.

I want some bands who sound like these:

The Shins
The Postal Service
Turin Brakes
Joseph Arthur

Basically indie and indie rock.

Also, do you know if Harry and the Potters have an album out in stores?

*Death Cab For Cutie
*All Time Quarterback
*Flake Music
*Spoon
*Belle & Sebastian.

For more ideas, try going to www.pandora.com and searching any of the groups you like. More songs you might like will come up, and it's FREE.

I hope I helped!

P.S. I adore the Shins too :)

I am learning Spanish and I know the best way is to read, watch and listen.
So suggest me books to read, movies to watch, and music to listen to.
I like Manu Chao and Aventura very much.
I do not like Pedro Almodovar.
Thank you all in advanced.

You could listen to The Orishas, they're pretty cool, or pretty much any reggaeton (Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, etc.).

For books, I would actually recommend reading children's books. They have less words and way less complicated grammar/vocabulary than adult literature, so it makes it a lot easier to understand. It may feel strange at first, but you sure don't have to look up as much stuff.

Movies and T.V. suggests: On T.V., you could watch telenovelas (Spanish soap operas). They're usually pretty funny (often unintentionally), and the acting is very exaggerated so it gives you clues as to what they're saying.

This may come as a surprise, but what really helps is to watch American movies that you are familiar with dubbed in Spanish or with Spanish subtitles. That way, you can focus on understanding the dialog rather than being preoccupied with trying to figure out what the hell is going on with the plot. If you have digital cable, scroll through the movie section; they tend to have 1 or 2 Spanish language channels. I saw both "Harry Potter" and "Charlie and The Chocolate Factory" in Spanish that way, and it really improved my comprehension. If you don't have fancy movie channels, most DVD's you can rent have optional Spanish subtitles, so you can mute them and just focus on reading the words. Again, this may feel strange, but it helps a ton.

I hope I helped! Adios!

For my englihsh class we have to make 10 comparisons of celebrities.

An example: Will Ferrel is as tall as Vince Vaghun.

That basically means I need 20 celebrities, in pairs of what they have alike.

So far I have,

1. Marilyn Monroe is as talented as James Dean.
2. Jessica Simpson is as blonde as Christina Aguilera.
3. Jeff Corwin likes crocodiles as much as Steve Irwin.
4. Jim Carrey is as funny as Robin Williams.

Can anyone help me think of more pairs of celebrities that have things in common?? THANK YOU! :]

Wow. Can we trade English classes? I live for this stuff.

-Courtney Love is as drunk as Tara Reid. (perhaps inappropriate for school though)
-Nicole Richie is as skinny as Kate Bosworth.
-Beyonce can sing as well as Mariah Carey.
-Danny Devito is as short as Gary Coleman.
-Lindsay Lohan parties as hard as Paris Hilton.
-Jessica Simpson is as ditzy as Paris Hilton.
-Colin Ferrel is as badass as Angelina Jolie.
-Anne Heche is as crazy as Tom Cruise.
-Mischa Barton likes legging as much as Sienna Miller.
-Maggie Gyllenhaal is as weird-looking as Chloe Sevigny.
-P.Diddy is as rich as J-Lo.
-Elvis is as legendary as the Beatles.
-Arnold Schwarzenegger is as muscular as Fabio.
-50 Cent is as gangsta as Tupac.

I hope I helped! Have fun!
