Not wearing a condom is a good place to start, but that won't necessarily insure pregnancy. It helps to also pay attention to your menstrual cycle to determine when you're ovulating (when the egg has been released from your ovaries) because that's when you are the most likely to become pregnant. Some women know when they're ovulating because it can sometimes cause cramps.
I always heard that sex hurt the first time, too. But the more women I've talked with that have had sex, the more I'm beginning to doubt that that is always the case! Most women I've spoken with said they experienced little to no pain the first time they had sex.
I think a few reasons why we hear so often that it hurts is because that's what has been passed down by word of mouth from one generation to the next, and there have been a few changes in women's lives over the past few decades that might have made part of the difference, ex. the use of tampons.
Also, having sex with someone you are very comfortable with is likely to make you feel a lot more relaxed and at ease so your muscles may not be as tense which will- hopefully- keep things from being too painful.
