Q: Hi guess. Pls is there any one who knows a bit of French out there? Pls i'll like to have an idea of the meaning of... "il est tres mignon"
Thanks all!!!

It literally means "He is very cute" but could also mean "It's very cute." Mignon typically is used to mean "cute" but also means "darling"

Well I'm a fan of wikihow.com, so I'm going to give you a link to the page "How to Have Good Manners."
http://www.wikihow.com/Have-Good-Manners
I think it summarizes anything really crucial in order to have good manners.
Also, google is a great tool if you use it properly. Search using key words. I just searched "good manners" with the quotations of course, and I found tons of useful links. Here are a few of them:
http://www.sideroad.com/Etiquette/good-manners.html

Q: What should my new aim screen name be? I am brunette, hyper, peppy and happy and I need something creative!

Hmm... What about something in another language? for example, on Advicenators my username is Aucunu. This is French for "Without U" since my name is commonly misspelled with a "u" and is a common source of annoyance for me. Plus I speak French and love anything French-y. You could use freetranslation.com to translate something personal to you.
Maybe you could have your name + phoeneticized middle and last name initials. For example, Anne C R would be AnneCeeArr
Some other ideas...
[your name here] Couture
Peppy Brunette
[your mascot] Fan [graduation year]
I also found a site that has ideas on making up a screen name if none of these ideas suit you: http://forums.theideaweb.com/f40-screen-name-ideas/t3107-how-think-up-screen-names.html

Q: after i wash my face my nose gets all shiny! why? how do i prevent it in the future?
Your nose is shiny because of all the oils. You may consider looking for a face wash or lotion that is specifically made for oily skin. It will help combat this shininess.
Also, you could go to the nearest make-up store (sephora is great if there's one nearby) and ask someone at the counter what he or she suggests for hiding the shine. Most likely you'll be given an anti-shine powder. That should help!

Q: I'm a junior. I'm supposed to be doing college visits and all that jazz this summer, but I have NO IDEA what I'm doing. I get good grades, and I want to aim for Ivy league, but I have no idea of what I'd like to major in. I don't know which colleges to visit or how to schedule tours or what to look for once I get there.. Pretty much any information about deciding on a college would be welcome. Thanks (:
Well, first off, don't worry about what you want to major in. Many students don't have any idea what they want to major in, even when they start college. But you could think about what you're interested in. Do you have an interest in technology? Math and Science? the Liberal Arts? If you have a specific field of interest then you have a starting point for your potential major.
If you go to collegeboard.com you can fill out your information into a match maker. At the end of this survey you will be presented a list of colleges that fit your responses. I took it and among the results was a long-time dream school -- the school I attend now! So it definitely is a great tool. The location is here: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/adv_typeofschool.jsp
Some things you should consider when selecting a school include:
1) location - do you want to be near your family? Do you prefer city life or living in the country? etc.
2) Name - you mention wanting to aim for an Ivy. So perhaps you want a school that is highly regarded. You should consider some schools that are comparable to the ivies. My college is a private institution that has been compared to Harvard, for example. Just remember that you can get a great education at a number of colleges and universities, to include state schools.
3) Extracurriculars - are you an athlete? a musician? etc. If you want to continue anything in college, check to see if the schools offer those activies.
You don't have to pre-schedule tours. Actually all you have to do (at any school I've heard of) is show up at the campus center, sign up for the next tour (my school offers them on the top of every hour), and voila. In the fall you should consider spending a night in a dorm. That wasn't feasible for me, since I didn't live in the states when I was applying. So it's obviously not a 100% necessity. But it would definitely give you a feel for the school that campus brochures and scripted tours wouldn't.
As a last note, make sure you don't get caught up in the gimmicks. Sure, an all-you-can-eat buffet would be fantastic. But is it necessary? Make a list of the most important things that you need. Then decide on schools from there.
I hope this helps you out!

Q: So I'm in high school and we just got our new schedules. I'm pretty into music...I took concert choir and musical theatre but there's one class I got stuck in that I didn't ask for...music theory. Does anyone know what that is, or what to expect?
In music theory you learn about the fundamentals of music (eg, staffs, scales, music notation, chords, etc). It can get as rigorous as you want it to be. I think it's an essential class for anyone who wants to advance in music, since in performing you should understand every bit and piece of your music. Plus it can be a lot of fun. In some classes, students write their own music scores!
If you don't want to take it, my suggestion would be to see your counselor and ask if there's any way to switch to a different music class.
Hope this helps.

Q: i read the book "the catcher in the rye" by j.d. salinger a while ago (maybe months to a year ago) and i remember certain parts of the book pretty well but certain parts i don't remember at all.
i wanted to read this book over the summer because i heard that we're going to be reading it this upcoming schoolyear in english and i was just planning ahead. however, when i realized i remembered parts, i looked online for summaries of the book, etc. to refresh my memory (although there are still big gaps).
a few questions.
1.) i have like five more books i DEFINITELY want to read this summer (all for english this upcoming year) that i've never read before. do you think i should read "the catcher in the rye" again? or is it unnecessary?
2.) what is the meaning of the title "the catcher in the rye" ? like, where did that come from?
OPTIONAL: PLEASE ONLY ANSWER IF YOU'VE READ THE BOOK OR I WILL RATE DOWN!
can someone just like, reiterate the major events that took place in the catcher in the rye? i said this is optional because i've already looked at summaries online and they don't do spoilers, so maybe the 4 or 5 most important things that took place?
thank you so much!
1) I think that because you've already read it, you've got a pretty good background on the book. You should focus on reading books that you haven't read already, so you'll be ahead on those as well.
2) The "catcher in the rye" is the character from the song. The catcher stands in a rye field and catches kids before they fall from the cliff. Holden feels like adulthood took away the youthful enjoyment of life from him and wants to protect kids from "falling" into the cyncism of adulthood, since nobody ever "caught" him.
OPTIONAL: Well, it's been quite a while since I've read this, so I wouldn't be the best person to summarize events (I'd probably get a few wrong!). There are several study guides that explain everything.
I found a chronology of events here: http://www.geocities.com/deadcaulfields/CatcherChronology.html ... I'll paste them below for your convenience.
Sparknotes is often discouraged, but as a supplement is great. http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/catcher/
There is another great study guide here: http://www.bellmore-merrick.k12.ny.us/catcher2.html

Q: thanks for your help! what are toric lenses?
also, do you have glasses in addition to contacts? i recently got a contacts refit and a prescription for glasses (my first time wearing glasse) now i have my glasses but theres something off about them. they have astigmatism accounted for but i had a headache when i put them on and took them off. is the prescription for glasses diff than contacts since contacts like wrap around the eye and glasses dont?
Toric lenses are special lenses to correct astigmatisms. They're not fully symmetrical, because they have to fix the 'defective' eye. When you first put a toric lens in it can be pretty blurry for about 5 minutes. This is because it's adjusting to your eye.
I have one for my right eye, and a regular lens for my left since only my right eye has astigmatism. Unfortunately the toric lenses tend to be more expensive than regular, depending on what you need done.
Also, I do wear glasses and my prescription does change a bit. I like to get my glasses separately from the contacts 'cause like you I get headaches when they account for my astigmatism!

Q: so a few weeks ago i went to a play with my mom and my best friend, and then on the way home my mom dropped me off at my dads house first (my parents are divorced and i was at his house that week) then she dropped my friend off. i didnt think anything of it at the time. so the next day i was talking to my friend and she was telling me all this stuff that her and my mom had talked about after i had gotten out of the car. she said that my mom asked her if she new why her and my dad had gotten divorced and my friend said no, becuase she didnt, and then she said that my mom told her that they got divorced because my dad was having an affair!! this was the first time a had heard anything about this. i am 15 right now and my parents got divorced when i was 12, and a little while after they got divorced, my dad got a girlfriend, and a little bit after they told me she was pregnant, and now, i have a new baby brother thats 9 months old. so, you do the math. i dont know what to think, should i believe what my mom told her, that he had an affair?? before i heard this, i never had the slightest thought he ever did that, its so not him. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO THINK AND ITS CREEPING ME OUT THAT THERE IS EVEN A POSSIBILITY THAT HE WOULD DO THAT TO MY MOM. so, on to my question, if you were in my position, what would you think? anything will help!
thanks in advance :)

I think that you need to talk to your mom. Perhaps the reason she brought this up to your friend was that she really wanted to talk to you about it, and deep down inside felt your friend would tell you for her. While I do think that this was an inappropriate move on her part, especially since you're not an adult, what's done is done.
Keep in mind that all people make mistakes. If, indeed, this is true, you may feel resentment toward your father. But remember you're his daughter, and his romantic life and decisions (bad as that one was) are his business. He may have been unhappy with his relationship with your mother, or he may have simply had a very screwed up personal life. Confronting him will not be the best idea.
This is clearly bothering you, and obviously is still on your mothers mind. So talk to her. Don't judge, and don't act like her friend, because you're not. You are her daughter.
I hope this helps.

Q: So I took a course on babysitting/kidsitting. I talked to multiple people in my neighborhood about it. Most of them said that if I took it they would hire me. So I took the course but now that I have the certificate nobody will hire me. I am afraid to put up flyers because I heard about how some people call the numbers and pretend they have kids to babysit but then they are like perverts and end up like kidnapping they babysitters. I want a job but noone will hire me. What is a good but safe way to get the word out that I'm certified and avalible to work?
First off, how old are you? Most parents want people who are older since people tend to equate age with reliability. Typically 12 is the starting age.
Secondly, they may not know you well enough to trust you with their kids. Or perhaps they do not think you're the right person for the job, maybe due to lack of experience. But most likely, they already have reliable babysitters.
I don't see anything wrong with putting up flyers. I think you should ask your parents to mention your babysitting services to their friends. And if you have friends who already babysit, offer to be their back-up babysitter.
If someone wants you to sit, but you do not know him or her, have a parent come along before accepting the job offer. That way if there is a real problem, you'll have an adult to protect you.
Once you get your first gig, they should keep rolling in. I'll use this analogy: would you really want someone to cut your hair if she's never used scissors before? OK, lame analogy I know. But doesn't that make sense?
I hope this helps.

Q: can ppl with astigmatism have them?

People with astigmatism sure can have color lenses. There are many brands that make color toric lenses. I have a very sharp astigmatism and I was told that I could still have color lenses (though I wasn't interested!).
So if you're interested in color toric lenses, you can and should talk to your optometrist about your options.

Women's Health has a great article on how to insert a tampon. http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/azhealthtopics/ht/How_Insert_Tamp.htm. I'll paste it below. I hope it helps.
"Here's How:
1. Relax! Try not to worry about inserting the tampon right the first time. If you are tense it will make insertion harder.
2. The best time to practice inserting a tampon is during the heavy part of your period. The tampon should glide inside your vagina easily without any discomfort.
3. Decide if you prefer to insert the tampon standing or sitting. If sitting is your preference, sit on the toilet. If you want to try standing, putting one foot on the bathtub helps.
4. Hold the tampon applicator in your right hand if you are right-handed, or left if left-handed.
5. Use your thumb and middle finger to hold the bottom of the larger, outer tube.
6. Point the tip of the applicator toward your vagina, facing slightly towards the back. The smaller tube should be pointed away from your body.
7. Use your other hand to open your vagina.
8. Place the tip of the applicator at the opening of your vagina.
9. Gently push the smaller end of the applicator in until it is completely inside the larger outer tube. This pushes the tampon into your vagina and out of the tube.
10. With your thumb and middle finger still on the outer tube, release the smaller tube and let the strings dangle freely.
11. Gently pull the two tubes out together.
12. Dispose of the applicator according to the manufactuer's instructions.
13. When you are ready to remove the tampon, gently pull the withdrawl strings down and forward. The used tampon may be flushed down the toilet.
Tips:
1. Lubricating the rounded end of the tampon with a water-based lubricant such as K-Y Jelly can make insertion easier the first few times. Don't use petroleum jelly.
2. Always read the manufactuer's instructions throughly before using any type of tampon.
3. If the tampon feels uncomfortable it is probably not inserted far enough into your vagina. Try again with a new tampon."

It's definitely not, unfortunately. I love the movie too! If you want to see a list of movies that have been released on DVD, you can go to the wikipedia page. Each movie with an asterisk has been released. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Disney_Channel_Original_Movies
Next time Tru Confessions is on TV you could always record it! I've done that with a few movies.
You can also watch the full movie on youtube, though it's not great quality. If you search "Tru Confessions Part" then you'll find all 9 parts of the movie. Here's a link to make it easier on you: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tru+confessions+part+&search_type=&aq=f.

What you want to do is to increase your abdominal muscles. If you have a nearby gym that offers ab workouts, those would be great to take. Or if you're short on time, you could do quickies at home. I have some links I think you'd like.
