Am I really feeling depressed or am I just acting?

Question Posted Wednesday July 29 2026, 11:54 am

I keep reading about depression, and I found that for it to occur I either have to have a traumatic experience or unstable hormone levels, which neither of these I have(my thyroid hormone levels are normal, which is something people usually check to see if you are constantly irritated or lethargic). So what exactly is wrong with me? I feel happy reading something like comics or novels. I do mostly all of my work, except for studying ofcourse(I'm a college student). I listen to music. I feel the urge to write or draw(though I never proceed with it). So what exactly is wrong with me? Am I really depressive or am I acting? But to garner pity from whom exactly? My guardians don't see it(I am not adopted, I just have a very weird situation at home). My mother sees and asks but I always deny it. So for who exactly am I acting?
