Button-up Shirt Does Not Fit Anymore

Question Posted Sunday February 24 2013, 3:05 pm

I was wondering how many women and girls actually experience this with a button down top. I'm not considered busty by any measure (36B or 34C) but those type of shirts have started to fit very weirdly on me.

My technical top size is a medium, like a size eight, but I normally will wear a extra large because of my own personal preference. I don't look overweight or anything in a medium and often get compliments on how small I really am when I do wear a medium.

I had tried to borrow a medium button up from a friend of mine. I tried it on, and the buttons gaped like no tomorrow. It was disgustingly tacky because it looked really ill-fitting there, even though it fit normally everywhere else. My friend commented, saying how my boobs were too big for the shirt.

Later, I put on one of my XL button up tops, and saw very noticeable gaping between the first four buttons, to the point that one could easily see my bra from a slight angle. It wasn't as bad as the medium top, but boy was I surprised! The shirt used to fit just how I preferred it!

So my question is that is this a common occurrence with these types of shirts? Or did I suddnely gain something in my bra size? I haven't gained (or lost) any weight recentally, or since I've brought the XL top. Would it have something to do with me being 5 feet, thus being petite? I've heard that petite women have fit issues because they're five inches shorter than the clothes are designed.

A lot of shirts are make as if women are flat chested for some reason. I have some tops I tried on that do that too and had to stop wearing them. However they do make some that have more fabric around the bust area. The only challenge is finding them. I always have issues with how clothes fit on me (I'm petite) especially pants. I always have to fold them from the bottom. It's an additional challenge fining clothes, but that is the curse of being a woman. It just takes forever.
