Should I expect a period?

Question Posted Monday June 18 2012, 9:17 am

19/f
So long story short, my doctor was unable to renew my birth control prescription before I was supposed to start taking it again, following my period. So I was off the pill for a month. She had told me that it usually takes about 3 months of being off the pill for your hormones to regulate themselves, but I had got my period on the day I was supposed to and lasted about 6 days, which it normally does. Well I've been back on the pill now for the past 3 weeks, and I was supposed to get my period 2 days ago (I'm usually insanely regular, which is why i'm a little concerned at this point). So what I was wondering is are the chances of my period being late high because I was off the pill for a month, then started it again? Or should I be more concerned of a possible pregnancy or something of the sorts; because yes, my fiancee and I do have sex. I'm just kinda curious if any other girls have been through what I have and maybe just give me some insight on what had happened to them or whatnot!
And I currently live 3 hours away from my family doctors, so no, I would not be able to set up an appointment with her or anything!

Thanks for any advice/insight!:)

It typically does take three months (sometimes longer) for your body to properly regulate itself after not taking your birth control for a time. I recently had to stop taking my birth control for a month because I was unable to get my prescription refilled. Which was strange, but anyway.. For the month and a half I didn't take it, yeah, my first period after the pill was normal, but then it got a bit erratic, a week and a half after I started again. Then after starting back up on my pills, it was irregular. I worried about pregnancy, but it turns out that was not the case. Due to the sudden drop in hormones, then all of a sudden a whole rise in them, it disrupted my cycle (which is usually always steady and regular). All you have to do is wait for your cycle to re-regulate itself, and it'll be fine. If you do still worry about pregnancy, the best thing you can do is get a home pregnancy test when you are able to get it, because regardless, you never know. But, high chances are, your system is just trying to regulate itself again.
