Once a month or every 28 days is average, many women have quicker or slower cycles than that.
Almost any cycle pattern is possible, since the age of 12, my cycle varied between 2 monthly to 6, 7 or 8 monthly, it was yearly when I was in my forties! I don't think it had any bad effects on me, I was pregnant twice, the first was naturally achieved, the second was with medical help. Now at 51, I've either done the menopause or missed it altogether, no signs either way. Don't think I've suffered anything bad.
Try asking your doctor if they can do some blood tests to check hormone levels etc. Perhaps other female family members have had similar cycles, you could try asking them. It's reassuring to know someone else has gone through the same things as you have.
