Itunes won't let me put a tv show on my ipod classic! Help!

Ok so i just bought an ipod classic. I went onto itunes and purchased a tv show. I paid for it and it completely downloaded, but when i went to put it on my ipod, it gives me a message saying it cannot be played on my ipod. how do i put it on? i paid a lot for it so im really upset i cant put it on my ipod. So can anyone tell me how come tv episode's won't go onto my ipod?thanks.
