the war hi. i just wanted to say your advice is pretty straight foward and the no nonsense type which is cool. i wnat to know what is it like being in the war? i see the army wives show but i can never get the full sense of what it's like. you might say i should try and join the army so i can see for myself but i am way too sensitive and i might not be able to handle such an experience. i want to know the ups and downs of being a soldier. good luck with the war!

the ups: I've fired every weapon from the M9 pistol to the AT-4 anti tank rocket to the 120mm mortar, my paycheck is nearly 100% profit, meals are free, housing's free, healthcare's free, I live in germany, been to seven foreign countries on two continents, and I've fought and won against a worthy adversary in several battles.
the downs: losing friends, being emotionally and physically battered, starving, losing control of your life, not being able to have a stable relationship, and being considered bat-shit crazy by most people you meet.
I'm proud to have done many of the things I've done, but war takes a lot out of people. every day, I woke up and watched the sun rise and thought, this may be the day that I die, and then as the sun goes down, I'd wonder if I'd be alive to see the next sunrise. Thats not healthy by any means, but as long as you're ready for whatever comes, its okay. sort of fatalistic, but you can never be sure when the taliban would attack, and no matter what you do, if there's a bullet or RPG with your name on it, then its just your time. and there are fates worse than death.
it all comes down to one thing really, if you can sit down next to a dog thats badly wounded, look it in the eye, and after about a minute, pick up a rifle and shoot it in the face to put it out of its misery, you're capable of doing what I do. and yes, I've had to do that several times.
