Does anyone here live in alaska? we are thinking about moving to alaska (my sweetie and i) he is like gung ho about it and i am not too sure...i am a total summer woman...i can handle the cold cause i come from michigan, but i don't know about alaska cold... What is one of the warmest parts? What are the gas prices and food prices like... If I were going to buy like 1 lb of salmon, a gallon of milk, a box of cerial, a dozen eggs, some pasta sauce and some pasta, a gallon of water and a pound of oranges and a pound of broccoli what would that cost me roughly...that is about a week's worth of groceries for me.
What is parking like? What is the deal with this 24 hours of light and 24 hours of dark? what does that mean? does that mean the sun never goes down there for like 6 months? Do they have apartment buildings with heated pools cause i heard that even in the summer it is too cold to go swimming and i don't know how i would handle not being able to swim ever again in my home town...or is that not true? can you go to the beach in the summer and the water is warm? What is the average price for apartments? I've been looking and a lot of the ones i've seen are like 800 and up...but internet prices tend to be higher...is that the case here or is 800+ about right? Are utilities normally included...what would be a typical outfit in the winter time there? Would I have to wear insolated gloves or could i wear regluar gloves? Is it true that if i go out in the winter with out gloves that i will get frost bitten? What about fishing? Is the water clean enough to go fishing there for your own fish? What kind of fish are popular over there? What is like the most country area to live in cause I hear that Anchorage is very populated and they have bad traffic. What is the average price for like a 2 story home in a nice neighborhood? Is it true that you can grow herb in your home and they don't bother you about it? is it true that you can smoke herb there and they don't bother you about it? IF there is anything that I left out that you can tell me I would really appreciate it! Thank you...

Its not that bad. Just a regular place. Its less expensive here than in the lower 48 though. We dont have taxes when you go to the store, but gas prices are pretty much the same every where. It gets cold during winter for a few weeks, but the summers are usually warm. The sun doesn't stay up for 6 months there are like 4 hours of daylight during winter and in the summer its always daylight 24/7.
Most of the apartments don't have pools... Hotels have heated pools but i haven't seen many apartments that have pools.
As for all the prices, it just depends on what you're looking for no matter where you live. Anchorage is a really nice place. Its a bigger city with normal malls and places to go shopping. Its about the only place in Alaska you can actually shop. I live about 8 hours away from Anchorage so I go there every so often whenever we feel like taking a long drive.
As for the growing herb in your apartment....no. thats illegal here too. [ muhlynduhh_hunn's advice column | Ask muhlynduhh_hunn A Question ]
